Good afternoon all on this wonderful June 21st and first day of summer... Smiley

Location: Last three shots are Wax Orchards "WA69" Washington State, United States
Aircraft: Douglas DC3...Simviation Downloads>Vintage>Page 10>Awesum4sum...Thanks "Daube"

Excellent Link to Floats and Skis:

http://www.wipaire.com/skis/index.php

Many types of aircraft are configured with wheel/ski landing gear and there are several types for each aircraft from different manufacturers.
Like landing on water there is a technique for landing onto snow and ice, it takes practice and patience.

Engines on...Park Brake on...observing Hydraulic Pressure is important here
...

Rear of skis...not all skis look like this type
...

Rolling...notice rear of skis and flaps...Location is Wax Orchards
...

Gear up...position of skis...the DC3s I flew the ski came up and touched the front bottom of the engine cowling and were hydraulic, electric and would free fall into setting.
...

Climb out...notice ski position
...

There are a few other aircraft here at Simviation that have ski's, use them and enjoy.

Tips when landing on a snow covered lake:
-precautionary approach...inspect landing surface
-power on touch and go...be prepared to add power
-2nd precautionary approach...check ski track...if it is dark don't land...probably water under the snow
There are a lot of other do's and don't and a winter ski course is available at a lot of locations...try before fly.

Comments and advice most welcome... Wink

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

So Doug, how are those new DC-3 ?
I have installed them some time ago, but I never really took the time to test them. Especially this ski version, I have not loaded it yet !
... in fact I'm keeping it for the Denali Camp mission, which I recommend you if you've not already done it Wink

Nice shots Doug. And excellent explanations/advice.  Smiley

...
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
