Several years ago I upgraded my FS from FS2004 to the then new edition for XP, FSX. When the disc arrived it had a label on it which said "Great for XP, even better for Windows Vista." It was the FSX Deluxe Edition and  ran without fault. I used it since then until last week when I upgraded my computer to Windows 7. I have placed the same original first programme disc into my computer with Windows 7 with 64 bit and all I can get on screen is the dialogue box "Install Shield will install your programme." Nothing happens and I have to take the disc out. I have heard that it is possible to install an older programme into Windows 7 by using Compatibility but my researches show that the programme has to be running first before that option can be used. Am I correct?      I like the idea of using the older programme because perhaps I could use the various aircraft I have purchased over the years. My other alternative is to purchase the FSX edition called the Gold Edition although I am not interested in the Acceleration aspect. However, although on the blurb on the Microsoft web site that this edition will run on  Windows 7 I see that on the disc box (enlarged)it says, Will  run on 'Windows Vista', just like the edition I have. Can anyone confirm the Gold Edition will definitely run on Windows 7 if I purchase it, or is there a work around for the one I possess ?
Thanks.

I have FSX Delux running on Win7 64bit. Has been installed since Win7 came out.  Runs quite nicely.
Someone with better qualifications than I will most likely chime in here with some suggestions for you.

I've been running FSX on Win 7 64 bit and it runs soo much better than XP or Vista.  I just got a Lenovo Ideapad that's running Win 7 Home Premium, and it's a beast for FSX.

I'm running FSX on my Samsung laptop with Win7 Home Premium, no problems from me as long as I run it with my nVidia card.

I'm running Win7 64 bit with FSX, it does fine, except for changing the taskbar colors.

It doesn't change the task bar colors, it disables some theme and aero features when running as FSX is not natively compatible with 64bit. I run mine on win7 x64 and whilst it does that, it does not in any way effect how either windows nor FSX run.

Thank you to those who replied. I took the disc out and showed it to the replies on screen saying that everyone else except me had it working, placed it in the DVD one last time, and Hey Presto, it loaded! How curious is that? What's more, at 64 bit, it's even better.
