Goodly afternoon all... Smiley

Well have this electronic gizmo up and running again with much help and still get the odd error when running REX2, FTX Central and FSX all together.

Sometimes I get everything loaded and no errors.

Next flight I will get the errors and black boxes during the flight...don't figure.

Only solution I see is make everything the same...no three four or more ways of doing programs...but that is me... Roll Eyes

I found lots of seaplane/floatplane bases around Friday Harbour and they are a lot of fun just to visit...nice scenery this ORBX.... Smiley

Now this Carenado Cessna 172 Float does not seem to act right while on the water and really wanders in the air... Grin
Certainly not like the real Cessna 172 on Floats... Grin

The Cessna 172 on Floats (real aircraft) is really a two (2) place aircraft but a good little performer on floats.
I liked them when it was camping/hunting time...the bears, moose, deer and raccoons could not lick the dope or eat the fabric as the aircraft is all metal.
Tent, coleman stove, lanterns, food, wobbly pop, etc.etc. all fit nicely in the back of the C172 with the rear seat removed.
The aircraft made for a great two person flying jeep.... Grin

Moose, deer and bear could nicely be tied to the float... Smiley

So here are some shots I took, will be spending a little time in this area working my way north and perhaps jumping into the Carenado Cessna 185 Bush aircraft sometime soon....enjoy.... Smiley

FSX & Windows 7
REX2
ORBX Scenery
Carenado Cessna 172
Wobbly Pop....Coors Light.... Grin

...

...

It just started to rain while coming into dock...should have waited to see if I could get raindrops on the water or dock... Grin
...

Comments and advice most welcome.... Wink

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hey Trucker. Jet here - when I 1st got that aircraft it didn't act right either. at 1 time there was an update for it on their web site. at 1 time anyway.  If you need me to send you my Aircraft CFG File to replace yours let me know,, that will probably do the trick !  Jetranger,,,,...

Interesting flyingtrucker, that your still getting errors!

Should you dump Orbx? Yes its great scenery, well some of it. The close up airstrip stuff is sublime and frankly brilliant but i must be missing the point on the rest, i cant get it looking like it does in the pdf's, no matter what. I think they are using a ton of zoom and clever useage of REX ....

FTX central buggers around for me also, but it doesnt cause errors in FSX

Looking at your shots the water, buildings and so on look great, and your sky is first class, but the actual hillside, the bits going into the water? Well, what do you think? Please note im not having a go, just how i see it, and comparing it to what i see in my FSX. I do note from your previous posts your playing with settings and so on a lot, so im just trying to be constructive  Smiley

A few things ive discovered the past week :-

The HIGHMEMFIX thing has done wonders for my FSX, dunno why but it improved it no end, and i can run LOD at 8.5000 - although somehow after a few days i check the CFG and its back to 4.5000 ( Huh) Textures at 4096 - the only thing that causes 'stutters', is, you've guessed it, Orbx. But only from a distance...on the runway its fine but get out a bit and bang, hello stutters.

I dont get any errors now i think ive solved that. Not in the sim anyhow. How? God knows... Grin.  After shut down i get obscure messages that i dont understand sometimes!

My golden rules for screen shots, although i think ive posted it before :-

If the scenery's not so good, hide it with clouds. If you cant hide it with clouds, or your on the ground, go somewhere else.

If the scenery's good, USE IT TO THE MAX! Good scenery can cover for a not so good aircraft maybe with clever use of zoom, and if your water looks real, make sure theres some of that in there too!

Dusk/Dawn and faffing with REX things plus changing the weather theme can make so much difference and turn a mundane shot into somthing beautiful....

If your airplanes a dog, bin it. Theres plenty more out there  Wink

But please post more, its interesting to see how your FSX changes as you alter things Smiley

Thanks for the wonderful feedback "todayshorse"...very much appreciated indeed... Wink

Have also noticed the hillsides going into the water and wondered why that the default FSX sometimes looked better.

It seems the errors I get are when REX2 connects to the weather after downloading a "Theme".

Not sure about Simconnect for FSX either.  Downloaded it for configuration but am lost looking at that screen so left it alone.

I am sure these developers could make things a lot simpler if they worked together and tried... Roll Eyes     Wink

How are you firing up REX? I go REX then 'fly now' in the REX window. FSX boots then a 'weather map' pops up like a GPS thing which i minimize and FSX continues starting... Have you configured everything correctly within REX? Mine was trouble at first but it was 'exe.xml' which was causing the problem. That little ditty is in the same folder your fsx.cfg is.

Till i sorted that, sometimes REX would load, other times it did nothing. Id get no 'REX is gradually loading the weather....' titles. But now all is ok.

This is the way I do it.... Smiley

(1)  Start FTX Central....North America....Minimize it

(2) Pick a Theme or Create a Theme in REX2

(3)  Install the Theme

(4)  Once "OK...Theme Installed"  shows  I hit "Fly Now"

(5)  FSX Starts and then the REX2 Weather Screen just like
      in yours starts

(6)  I always wait for the Weather to fully load then I
       minimize that screen

(7)  Choose my aircraft....Flight Plan....etc in FSX and
       away I go

(8)  Sometime when closing out I will get an Error and
      sometimes I don't... Grin

I just started getting Black Squares showing up once in awhile during a flight...that never happened before.... Roll Eyes

That is about it... Wink

You don't have to run FTX every time, Doug.  Once you choose North America in the menu (and click "Apply") you don't have to mess with it unles you want to switch back to default FSX Smiley

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Thats true, in fact i noted FTX wont start if FSX is already running also. I get the odd error on quiting too, some strange messages i dont understand usually. As it doesnt interfere with FSX itself im tending to ignore it for now  Wink

Black squares? Hmm have you tried the HIGHMEMFIX=1? Worked wonders for me!

HIGHMEMFIX=1 in [GRAPHICS] section
"Allows FSX to manage more than 512MB of video memory on WDDM1.0 and WDDM1.1(?) without making textures dissapear or consider them stale."

Well it worked for me. Im sure there will be some who would say 'dont' but as its a simple thing to add - i had to add the whole line under the [GRAPHICS] section - its just as easy to delete!

Im not one for messing with the .cfg, but this certainly made a noticeable difference  Wink

Hi Doug,

Well, I have to say that these shots look quite good. Heck, you might even be getting some higher level of details than I do on my computer !  Shocked

My favorite would be the third one, because it has something special in the colours, even though I can't really explain. It's not like the other shots, something looks better in it, for an unknown reason... Anyways, you chose a Carrenado plane. Those are some of the most detailled planes ever created for FS, so don't hesitate, from time to time (which means NOT always) to get the camera closer to the plane, by reducing the camera distance (CTRL + "reduce selection") or using the "special" external views Wink

Concerning the black squares, I get that sometimes on the plane as well, especially if I'm flying not far away from Seattle, when I switch to the external view. It's because some texture take too long to load. After less than a second, everything gets back to normal and all the textures are showing. I guess this could be linked to the FSX.cfg, but I don't really know what parameter needs to be adjusted...
