This one has got me baffled.      Following a F9 re-install, some of my downloaded aircraft won't load.     "FS9 has encountered a problem and needs to close".    So, taking aircraft X as an example, I can't fly it.         However, I've found that, if I start by loading the default C172 and then select aircraft X, the system (mostly) works as normal.     I can't change aircraft in flight - the program shuts down - and, on exiting, the program shuts down too.     Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

...funny you should mention that!

I experience exactly the same "problem" for as long as I can remember..I've just learned to get used to it now... >:(..!

Sometimes FS 2004 starts up normally and everything runs OK, sometimes it doesn't, and I get that report.
Sometimes it starts up and runs OK, until I try and change aircraft during a "flight", then everything shuts down with that report, and then automatically restarts again on its own!

I found it happening so many times that I just moan to myself, and put up with it now... ::)...!

I sometimes think that the program gets "confused", (a bit like me), and decides to have another go at it!... ;D...!

Otherwise everything is fine...and we both settle down again, after a while... ;D...!

.... Wink...!

Not a day goes by that I don't save my fs9.cfg file, then fiddle with a new one, but I suspect that it notices my interference, and decides to annoy me again, with the complaint listed above... Wink...!

There's probably a reason, but its defeated me, so far... Cry...!

How many downloaded aircraft are we talking about that don't work correctly? All of them, or just a certain few? Also, I assume these were all added after the fresh install, and not left over from the previous install, right?

Truth is there are a lot of things that can cause FS9 to crash. Hate to say it, but it might honestly be faster to try another reinstall, rather than trying to fix one that may be compromised by missing files or something.

Are we sure this isn't a hardware issue? Any freezes or lockups prior to the crashes?

Thank you for the comments.       When I did the original uninstall, I elected for 'save settings etc'      I now find that the problem occurs with ALL aircraft.      Clearly, another uninstall/reinstall is looming!

Groundbound1 is right.
Dont save anything unless you got the problem ac nailed down. You need to start all over, and you need to test everytime you install anything.
Thats the way i do it.

Note that addon aircraft may not show up when using Vista or System 7 if FS is installed in a Program Files folder - they sometimes keep things from being used if added to those folders.

Hope this helps,

Thanks to all who responded.      My uninstall/re-install seems to have done the trick.      Only one niggle remaining: on every load now, I get a panel saying that the  publisher could not be verified.     This in spite of the fact that the load was from my original FS2004 discs.    However, the programme works so I can live with this.
