Saving the best for last...the Tenchs were the last class of US subs to serve in WWII.  This class was essentially the final phase of development in the Gato/Balao line.  She is fairly detailed but retains very good framerates.  The texture is by psullykeys.  She's posted and should be available by tomorrow.

I don't care what they say about you.  You need to get 'carried away' more often. 

All three classes of boats (Gato, Balao and Tench) went through various phases of armament consisting of 3" and 5" deck guns (fore/aft/both), plus 40mm and 20mm.  You can find photos of just about any configuration on any of the classes.  SEE ILLUSTRATION OF BALAO BOATS BELOW.

The Tench's most common configuration is that shown, with the exception that the forward 20mm was normally a 40mm Bofors on many of this class.  The forward mounted deck gun tended to interfer with the newer rotating sound gear mounted on the foredeck.

Another variation that can be confusing is the constant variation in the height of the conning tower, which was progressively lowered throughout the war and the configuration of periscopes and antennae in the various sub-classes of each boat. 

........I could get used to putting my cap on backwards to look thru' the Periscope .......
