Playing around with Oldwheat's phantom sub*, I started thinking (I know, something new for me).

We've built nice subs, pilotable subs and pilotable submerged subs that can fire torpedoes.   BUT can we build an AI submerged sub that will attack surface targets with torpedoes?  I think we can do it as an AI aircraft, but I'm wondering if it's worth the effort?   Hmmmm...

*See the screenie below.  Larry's sub is visible as a shadow below the surface of the water in front of the blimp that is about to drop a depth charge on it.   Pretty neat stuff being tested out for Oldwheat (aka Larry Brown).  She shows on radar but has no wake.  You have to be close to see her 'shadow'.

In reality this was a problem for the sub service. They could be seen from certain heights and angles down to a depth of about 70feet.
Various camo ideas were tried out but the basic cigar shape couldn't be disguised.

Got a puzzler working here.  I got the brilliant idea of placing the damage boxes of the invisible sub completely beneath the 'waterline' in the .dp & altering the .dp of a depthcharge in the same fashion.  This so that the 'submerged' sub will be impervious to gunfire & surface bombs but destroyable by the tweaked depth charge.  Only problem is that it doesn't work  Angry.  One of those 'works on paper but not in real life thingys.  Any ideas as to why it doesn't want to function as desired? ( Yet another CFS2 glitch?)

BTW: The invisible sub does indeed have a wake, it's just hard to see.

Learned a long time ago that CFS2 does not recognize any thing that is more than 6 inches below the surface.  So you must keep the tops of your damage boxes within half a foot of the surface.   Wink
