Island Tour (Read 568 times)

Date/Time:
Sunday, June 27th, 2010. 2:30pm US Eastern.
Route:
East Frisian Islands, Germany.
Starting at
Juist
(EDWJ) and moving east, stopping at all islands with airfields along the way. Ending at Helgoland's "Duene Airport".
The situation:
5 landings, 55 nautical miles.
Sim Time:
8:00am local
Aircraft:
Single engined fixed wing OR helicopter of any type.
Exception = Marcel Kuhnt's "Britten Norman Islander" twin. It is more than welcome! (See details further down)
Weather:
Fair skies.
Scenery:
This trip is pretty much pointless unless you have some freeware scenery installed!
FS2004....
http://www.m-r-software.de/
Click on the "Ostfriesland" link on the left side, and download both the "Ostfriesland 4.0" and "Helgoland 0.9" packages.
ERROR NOTE:
To prevent some texture bleeding issues while on the ground, copy the AFCAD files of the Ostfriesland package into your Scenery/World/Scenery folder. That's COPY, not MOVE. You will have the airfield AFCADS in BOTH the addon scenery's folder, and in the scenery/world/scenery folder. This will fix the texture bleed issues.
FSX...
For some reason I was thinking there was a similar scenery (with airports) for you guys. I could only find this on "another big FS website". I am unsure if it comes with custom airport scenery:
dl_nfi.zip
Notes:
The twin engine aircraft allowance consists of a few of the BN-2 Islanders by Marcel Kuhnt, available here:
http://www.m-r-software.de/
Numerous airlines operate these in the islands, making them a very common sight in this region.
You of course do not have to use one, but if you want to, do the following....
Click on the Islander link on the left, then....
1. Download BN32Rest.zip.
2. Choose either (from the "Basic Sets" section): D-IBNA, D-ILFB, D-ILFH, D-IORF, D-IFLN, or D-IOLA.
3. Go back to the top and download the appropriate sound pack for your aircraft (depends on how many blades it has).
4. Install it, and tell us in this thread which one you are using.
Other Notes:
I'll have a date and time announcement up later in the week. I am unsure of my current schedule.
This flight will be at a leisurely pace, with users free to explore each island a little bit before we land at its local airfield.
I know from experience with the 2004 scenery that it is absolutely stuffed with hundreds of custom, interesting sights to see!
At each stop, we will all land at the local airport, and everyone will be on the ground before we depart for the next in the chain.
While on the ground, feel free to taxi to the ramp of the airport and have a look around (plenty of details), or just line up near the side of the runway if you wish.
The objective here is to enjoy the flight and scenery, not to get through the route in the quickest time possible.
(Here's looking at you, Paul.....
)
Multiplayer Compatibility/Visuals:
Feel free to use any aircraft that fits the above requirements (freeware or payware).
If you will be using a freeware aircraft, it would be beneficial to our members to post the link to it in this thread, along with the link to any repaint you will be using with it that may not be included in its basic package.
This enables other users to see your aircraft correctly if they wish!
Obviously, if you are using a payware aircraft, feel free to tell us what it is, but that's pretty much all you can do.
MOST IMPORTANT NOTE. READ THIS:
PLEASE read the stickies at the top of this multiplayer forum about connecting to the server.
If you fail to follow those directions, you can ruin the flight for EVERYONE else. Failure to connect properly causes other users to be kicked out of the server, or blocked from joining. You may be able to join with your settings, but other users cannot!

I guess now would be a good time to make sure I've still got that scenery installed.
We've had some great multiplayer flights there in the past.

I don't think I can make it. My FS9 Disc 4 has finally gotten one scratch too many from years of use and my computer can't read it anymore. I can't start my FS9 for multiplayer anymore.

I like the VC for that one, simple looking, but easy to use.

I've found a rather nice sound set for that 150 :

And a nice photo real 2-D panel & VC textures, made just for that particular 150:

If you download the GBPLF paint from here, DO NOT use the c150 file that Pete linked it to in the description.
That is the older version of the plane, and it does NOT include the correct model files needed for the paint to display.
The only place you can get the correct file, c150_v2.zip, is here:
http://www.flightsim.com/file.php?cm=SEARCH1&fsec=0&fname=C150_V2.ZIP
I
did
include this info in my original version of the description text, but it was altered after I uploaded it.
I also included the correct file name needed in the readme inside the file, so hopefully, people will figure it out, while I work to get this problem corrected.
Once again, there is NOTHING wrong with the paint upload, it's just linked to the wrong plane.

The thing I like about much of the default aircraft, and some of the downloaded aircraft, is the ability to add ones own ATC (call-sign) registration details (and colour) to the fuselage and wings.....
....the default Beech Baron 58 being a classic example.
My own registration letters appear on my (Baron ) fuselage, and ATC use the same call sign for me!
Select Aircraft > ATC Name > Tail Number....
Of course, your own Registration details will not be visible to other Pilots in Multiplayer...

Paul, I'm not sure how it's done. I do know, however, that the old "Bill Lyons" aircraft maintained this feature.
As far as this flight goes, I will be using the payware Sibwings "SAAB Safir".
http://www.sibwings.com/fsmedia.php
Since I don't expect anyone here to actually own the aircraft, you can use the following as a placeholder during the online event.
se-iil_6.zip
@ flightsim.com (I did not see it in SimV's system).
It has some model compatibility issues such as no pilot and no prop, but it's at least the same sort of aircraft that I will be using. I'll load into the session with this plane, and then once everyone arrives, will switch to the payware Sibwings model. That way, you guys will see a Safir model on the screen still.
So far I am still good to go for the event.

A note of caution if you also have the NL2000 scenery installed:
The mesh from that addon will cause severe problems with the addons required for this trip, so make sure you disable it in your addon scenery list before flying.

The NL2000 (Netherlands) scenery mesh files,
makes these islands, and a giant chunk of Germany's coast, disappear underwater.
It was quite odd to fly over the Islands, and see runways, and houses floating in the water...
