I tried to find info on this, but is there a tutorial on how to use parts from other airplanes where I have the source codes files (GMax or FSDS tutorial) ?

Example:
Builidng an ultralight and wanting to use the panel design out of a Cessna (gauges and all).
Building a gyrocopter and wanting to use the rotor and blades from a Robinson R-22
Building a gyroplane and wanting to use the Rotax engine from a whatever ?

*in general*

If you want to use parts from another model, you need the source file(s) of that model to borrow the parts.

The simplest way in this case would be to alias your panel to that of the Cessna in the panel.cfg

You need the source file(s) for the models.

Having said that, I do know that there is a Rotax source file available (I don't know if the file is here in Simviation) because I am using it in a work in progress (an ultralight, that if I'd been building it in real life I'd have finished it by now)

Thanks, BUT

I do have the source files, that I need to use.

Please don't read too much into my question. I just need a tutorial on how to use parts from another model, in an existing model.

Since you have the source files that you need.

Depending on the program, the basic process is

gmax/max -

File->Merge and open the file you want to use the parts FROM, select the parts you want, click enter.

Now you'll have them in your model.

In FSDS...
OPen the file FROM which you want to use the parts.

Save each part  (Part->Save)

CLose the project.

OPen the receiving project, LOAD each part you want to use (Part->Load)

As for using the 2D panel, I simply copied the panel.cfg file from the Trike to my ultralight, while I create a specific panel set for it.

and you're right - I read your first post too fast and did not realize you already had the source files.

Ahh but there are others quicker methods in fsds Cheesy
Fast pooter
run 2 copys of fsds,in one open the donner project,in the other the new project cut and paste between the 2

slow pooter
open the donner project in fsds, copy the parts, then file open the receiving project and then paste...dont use the new under file tab as this will flush the cache loosing the saved parts

Progress...Now I just got to figure out how to name all the parts correctly. (Read FSX SDK, I guess) In regard to the rotor, how do you map it to both elevator and aileron ? Is that a pivot animation or 2 separate fore-aft side-to-side animations done in Gmax?
