These were taken with my mobile phone. It was right on the limit for taking any pictures as the light was fading fast. However the results are were not too bad. Shortly after there followed the sounds of four rabid banshees trying to escape from the pits of hell whist someone vigorously jabbed at their private parts with a branding iron ................REAL JET NOISE Cool Cool, not the namby pamby stuff that I am used to hearing Grin Grin

Turbo fans may be more economical, but turbo jets make all the right noises Grin

It is always nice to see a VC10, but as for an experience, I am afraid that in a previous life I spent far to much time down the back being ferried about from place to place......often to sandy places Grin

And they didn't put it in the VIP* fit for you? How rude!

(*We're a very "Orwellian" fleet now - one seat fit for all. Mainly because some poodle bloke who's name rhymes with "bony hair" decided travelling on a glorious VC10 was beneath him, so threw our money at BA instead! Or something like that! Grin)

Good afternoon all... Smiley

Strange how things are done differently in various parts of the world.

Here in the colony I do not think one would see de-icing in progress with a power cart still present.  Crew and pax can still be in the aircraft but I do not recall ever seeing a power cart present.   Smiley

Thanks for the pictures Matt... Wink

I can't say how the RAF do it (I am a long time out of the loop), but as far as our cigar tubes are concerned, they are de-iced with APU running and the Packs (air conditioning) off. The de-icing crews have to attend a 5 hour lecture on to do's and don'ts plus practical training on the equipment to be used. This is an annual qualification.

Hi Matt

Yes I believe the de-icing crews here do a refresher course every year here as well.

I have seen the Aircraft APU running during de-icing but do not recall seeing a power unit still attached.
Wonder how messy they get... Grin

Bearing in mind the only requirement is to de-ice the flying surfaces and not the fuselage, probably not that much.
