All due respect, if this is true why don't some of the default aircraft have lightmaps?

Just curious,
Joe

This is an old tale my friend, another well known issue ,YES if you are using Black alpha channel with 230,230,230 to make it shine(fuselage or wings) And No Lightmap you could have issues in the night mode  ,I saw this many times, people doesn't know why but this has to be with makemdl9.exe problem ,there are other forums we have discussed this many times.
Anyway there's being a long time ago I quit making aircraft using makemdl9.exe in other words FS9-SDK (maybe something has change) I don't know..

Something is really worrying me Jake,Tell me ,are you using Tools of FSX-SDK for texturing and exporting with makemdl9 instead modeldef.xml tool? Shocked

I am using PSfor creating the textures, save them as 24bit BMP, then apply them in Gmax. once the model is exported with FS9SDK for Gmax, I make a copy of the whole model's folder, place that in FS9 aircraft file, and there I use DXTBMP to add the alpha channels, and resave as DXT3 (as the normal extentend 32 bit 888-8  does not even display.

But as I said, I t could be my FS9. I,ve given a link a few posts up where you can download the beta model for test.

Again, thank you for all the help!

Sorry this is a bit late. I just tried your aircraft from your link & it crashes my FS9. Not sure why.

PS. It works fine without the textures so the problem is there.

Thanks, I noticed it as well. Maybe because I use the DXT3 for the fuselage?
when I am in flight with another plane, and then just change the aircraft to my model, then it shows fine, but when you exit the flight (or game) it also crashes. Thanks for the advice!

Oh I also noticed the right wing's shadows is upside down, but I earlier in this post is the fix already. but I am not too worried about that, going to clone/miror the wings stil a million tmes or so, and then will rectify then!

It's not the fuselage texture, it's the others. I suspect this is because they're an odd size. 1024 x 838 instead of 1024 x 1024.

Mitch tested the model in FSX, and he just changed the wing textures to DXT3, and it worked fine. So i quickly also changed the textures and did a very quick test, and it was better. see  http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1256718293

But now I have a new problem:

I opened the 3 odd-sized textures in DXTBmp. Then sent them to PSP7 to resize them to 1024 x 1024. I reloaded the edited images in DXTBmp before saving them in 888-8 extended BMP format. This is the result.

Might be the solution to the transparent problem as well, I as I see that it have to do with the textures. I do not have the transparent problem when texture is saved as DXT1. will adjust and see what happens! thank you for all the help!

I just saved my resized textures in DXT3 format. All works fine for me. I didn't include mips. Not sure if that would explain it.
