well guys, looks like i wont be around for a short while. My Dell Laptop just crashed 2 days ago and now i am in the process of trying to find a way to get a replacement Dell Recovery Disk to reinstall Windows.

For those that do not know.... NTLDR is NT Loader... The program that tells Windows to boot up. If that file is missing, you're totally SCREWED!!!! off to REINSTALL CITY

as soon as I do, then I will be back to bug everyone again. See Ya then!

well, after a short 2 day hiatus.... yours truely has returned to wreak some havoc. nah, just kidding. But i will be adding my 2cents to a few topics every now and then.... hehe Smiley

I had to get a FREE set of recovery / reinstallation disks from Hell, I mean DELL.. and i had to reinstall windows, and I am still in the process of rebuilding the C: back to the way it was before the NTLDR went missing.

but none the less, after EVERYTHING is back on the computer I might be looking for another external HDD to make a full and complete backup of the C: every month or so. (lightbulb smiley)

I've had both my rigs die in the past couple of weeks. I've got one running and the other I had to do a low level format on the HDD. Hopefully I'll get XP Pro back on it tonight and be able to resume normal life Roll Eyes

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

well, now that my Hell (i mean DELL) computer is back up and running at 80% of what it use to... Now I have to concentrate on my wife's HP, and an old Hateway (gateway) that has been dead now for about 6-7 years; which i actually like better than the HELL.

why not just reinstall the mbr from a recovery console. Just type "fixmbr"

Could work and could not. It all depends on what on the disk is missing. NTLDR is not as simple as replacing the missing or corrupted file. There is a method of expanding the file itself and repairing it but I hear it is not worth the trouble. Tongue

Hopefully everything is back to normal your you.

if you get a message NTLDR is missing, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot.

it WILL reboot, but every time it does the computer will only show "NTLDR is missing, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot."

NTLDR is the file that controls how WINDOWS boots up. You need WINDOWS (even in safe mode to be able to fix things).... if you can not boot windows, what is your only choice???????

DING DING DING... RE-INSTALL IT !!!!!! i did just that 4 times and I believe it is fixed now.... (fingers crossed)

It could also be a hardware problem as mine was. My Raptor went kaput and messed everything up. Things in D were labeled C and everything was switched. Wink

not a vid card problem as I have a chipset. as soon as i reinstalled winxp 4 times, everything is fine now.
