Hi all

Has anyone else received a email from FSInsider taking a survey for flight sims?
I got one and took the survey. Based on the questions they were asking, the next flight simulator will probably be a online arcade flyer Roll Eyes

I voted as honestly as I could and at the end it ask for what we would like to see in the next game. I listed some missions I would like to fly and also stated I would want a simulator, not a arcade game. I said I wouldn't mind if it had arcade missions/planes, but it would also have to have planes with proper flight characteristics and procedures.

I even asked for first person perspective preflight walkarounds.
I hope everyone that likes 'simulators' will express your feelings to MS and FSInsider.
If you do happen to get this survey, please take it and let them know how us long time supporters of the series feel about a arcade based flight game.

I think arcade planes and missions are fine and would help to bring new players into the simulation genre. But many of us simply would not be interested in a 100% arcade game. So if we hope for something that appeals to us, we should let it be known now.

Anyway, I fear that the 'simulator' aspect might really be gone Cry
You would have to see the questions yourself to fully understand what I mean. Maybe you can find some details or request the survey at FSInsider.

I took the survey. I would love to fly inside a model airplane around the inside of the house! Also, the "flying squirrel" suit sounds like fun.

But these should only be diversions and candy used to attract ever more enthusiasts to the game. There should ever be a commitment for getting more realistic, more aircraft, more options, and just more betterness.

I'd like to see more tuning options for different grades of hardware, so everyone can have smooth flight, and better eye candy or realism or whatever is most important to how YOU fly personally.

I want freaking miracles is what I want!  Cheesy

I voted it didn't matter for the R/C plane.
The bat wing free fall thing I said I would like.
For the Jet Man type wing thing, I said I would like that too and a few other things.
I didn't just say no to them. I would actually fly some of them. In fact there were only a couple I said I wouldn't want at all.

I also liked that they ask about damage to the planes.

Some missions I said I would like to see were:
Schneider Trophy years.
Bush flying into very short strips at high altitude.
Test Pilot finding the aircrafts limits, etc.
Flying 1950's and 1960's atomic bomb test missions.
I gave details as to how I would like them to be and the challenges they would offer.

If they turn FS into an arcade game.. screw it, I'm staying with FSX.

Some of what you guys have said (I did not get the survey e-mail) sound interesting and would be good for a quick amusement but for a serious simulator.. maybe not.

At the end of the survey,  Where it asks for any other suggestions,

I linked them to our FS11 wish list, and said, "Enough said."

And that aint all bad  Smiley  Good thing they built it for "future" hardware..  We haven't BEGUN to tap the potential here..

A2A opened the systems door with Accu-Simm, showing what's possible... and as hardware gets faster, the models and scenery can just get better, and more complex..texture resolution will increase..

It's still almost like a blank canvas.. and if MS abandons the SIMULATOR aspect.. we'll be just fine  Wink  (for many years)

I got the Survery and I can honestly say Microsoft are taking the biscuit with these ideas, it shows that they are making an arcade game and ditching the simulator legacy.
I can't wait to see how Aerosoft's simulator pans out and I hope it can replace the hole where FS11 won't be.  Cry

Well they might be considering an arcade game, but I imagine most FSX fliers prefer simulators; so MS would get that point across from the replies.

If you compare the FS11 wishlist from here, with most of the questions asked in that survey, I would say they listened  A LOT this time.  Wink

However, it's the bean counters who get to decide content in the end. Regardless of what buisiness it is. Sad

So true!  I'm excited to see what future hardware can do with FSX  Grin

Good idea.

Yeah, I too see many years of service from FSX.
I will be optimistic towards the new one. I will hope it is FS-XI along with an arcade mode and action based missions for action based game players.
The way I am thinking is that FSX could have had many things in it that are in the survey, along with everything it now containes. So it would be possible for the upcoming one to be a the next sim in line, but with many missions that are arcade.
If so, beautiful. We enjoy what we like and vise versa. It could be made to suit both type players. The flight models in FSX can be made very arcade now in the settings.

An arcade .cfg could be in the next game that completely alters the FM. Simply click Arcade Flight Model (for example) when you select the plane, or at some other point in the setup. It could even have arcade aircraft models right along side a DC-7. The DC-7 could have everything we would want it to have in it's DC-7_Simulator.cfg and could also fly like a Pitts S1-S (extreme example) when using the DC-7_Arcade.cfg. So they could give us real life aircraft models, arcade aircraft models, cfg's that could make the real aircraft fly like arcade planes. I can see this as certainly possible. Question is will MS?

We'll see, but if it does turn out to be a total abandonment of simulation, FSX is still only in it's teens right now.

Yeah, if the next Flight Simulator is an arcade game, I'm still staying with FSX.  That's really a bad idea. I mean every Flight Simulator has stuck with realistic experience. A "arcade game" would be very disappointing Sad Sad.
