Hello Chums, and Chumesses... Smiley...!

Something strange has recently happened to my Firefox Browser... Cry...!

At one time, I switched on my Computer, it went through the usual DOS routine, loaded up Windows XP Pro, then went straight to my Desktop Screen with all my Icons....all automatically...
...and when I requested "Shut Down" from the "Start"  Menu, the Computer Shut down...all automatically...

......which was nice, and uncomplicated... Kiss...!

Now, all of a sudden, when I switch the 'Puter on, after DOS, it asks me to Log On to Windows with my Name and Password, (even tho' I've already told it NOT TO in BIOS and Admin!).... Angry...!

...and when I shut down, it goes through a similar rigmarole of asking me various questions before it will close down!... Angry...!

...and to make matters worse, my Lovelies...

Now...every time I load up one of my many Sites, Forums, Sites, etc, I have to enter my Name and Password, etc, every time, before I can enter, even tho' I have told the site to REMEMBER my Name and Password, (ticked the Box), every time I connect/reconnect!... Angry...!

...its annoying, cos I have to keep looking through my List of Names and Passwords, and typing them in, every time!... Angry...!

I seem to have gone through all the usual bits an bobs in Firefox, and Windows Admin, etc, to prevent the above from happening... Roll Eyes....

...but my bloody Computer...and bloody Windows... is ignoring my all instructions not to do it!!.... Angry...!

...arse!... Angry...!

...any ideas, Chums...(and Chumesses)...why this should suddenly happen to poor old me?.. Cry...!

Note: I don't want to be messing about with all the Windows "Admin" "Log-in..Log out..Precaution stuff", etc, in Windows XP Pro...I need to bypass all that annoying, time consuming malarkey, like it did before!!.. Smiley...!

I just want to switch on, and switch off, my Computer with no complication in between....Joy!... Smiley...

..and I want it to bloody-well remember all my log-in Names and bleedin' Passwords...like it flippin'-well did before.... Angry... Angry...!

There you go Maties...

Can you cure my frustrations?... Roll Eyes...(involving Computers)...Wink...!

Paul...Logging Out... Wink.... Cool...!

...... Grin.....!

Poor Paul, this is the VERY event that led me to reinstall it all this week. Sad

I had become convinced I had a virus.

At first, I lost my IE, completely.

Then I switched to Firefox. It worked at first, but then it stopped remembering my passwords. Just like yours is doing now.

Finally, Firefox would no longer connect to the internet.

I gave up at this point and reinstalled, and now both IE and  Firefox work as expected. Wink

I'm still convinced I had a virus of some kind, so I have since reset ALL of my passwords. Embarrassed  You just never know. Wink

Honest.... Roll Eyes...!

Paul... Wink... Grin...!

P.S. ...its still playing up!...Its almost as though the Browser only remembers my Name and Passwords for one session. Next day they are all forgotten again, and I have to type them in again every time with each Site visit!
(Its the same with Sim V even tho' I request it to "Always Remember"... Cry...)!
...strange!... Sad...!

I agree it sounds like a virus or malware. I can only suggest a scan with Spybot & Malwarebytes.

Paul, have you done any Windows Updates recently? You could try this. http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-514-how-to-log-in-automatically-with-windows-xp

Please note that I'm not qualified to say whether it will work.

Done both of those Doug, (regularly) ...and a full Virus scan with AVG...

...nuffin' suspicious turns up!... Roll Eyes...!

Not sure whether the Problem can be with either Win XP Pro...of my Firefox Browser... Sad...!

I cant spot anything in the various settings which would cause the problem!

I would remove and re-install my Firefox, except for the rigmarole of recovering all my "Bookmarks" again, (which is much more straightforward in Internet Explorer!).

It is annoying though!... Angry...!

Ah OK. Worth a try. Did you check out my above link? http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-514-how-to-log-in-automatically-with-windows-xp

If it affects login & shutdown I think the problem is more likely to be with Windows rather than individual applications like Firefox.

i dont know if you have tried this or even want to... but look at::

START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > USER ACCOUNTS > USER ACCOUNTS (again) > Change the way users log on or off > ... make sure USE THE WELCOME SCREEN has a check mark....... and that USE FAST USER SWITCHING does NOT have a check mark.

This will stop the passwords at log on if you do not have any.

as to the questions at shutdown, I am not sure what you might be seeing, so I do can not advise on that subject matter.

BTW, I am running Win XP Home which is close to what you have.   Hope this might help in some capacity.

Poor, poor Paul!  Sad I have two options for you:

1. Go to your happy place.
2. Hit the computer with a hammer and say very, very bad things to it.
