"Another" FlightSim? (Read 536 times)

While on a late perusal of the local WallyWorld last nite, I saw something 'new'.....a flightsim titled "X-Plane 9".

From the outside it looked a bit interesting.....but a dress on a pig looks sorta interesting too!  {NOT in "that" sorta way!}

Anyone seen or heard of this?  My new pimped-out PC has more than adequate capability to accomodate something like that.....

But I wanna check with y'all experts first!

THANX!

X-Plane's been around for ages. I only have v.7 but I hear the new one (v.9) is rather graphic intensive.

The sim's sole purpose is accurate flight dynamics.

JSpahn could tell you all about XPlane, and from his screenshots the sim looks terrific, plus I've heard some good stuff about it.  I won't get it just because I'm still learning and tweaking FSX and flying FS9...I don't have time for another flightsim   Grin

Thanx!  I got a bit left on a WW giftcard and was considering picking it up for something a bit different to occupy myself with next winter.

When I googled it earlier, it did look pretty cool.

Just saw this post, an avid fs9 user for years I deced to go with X-Plane due to a recent computer virus....feed up with windows vulerabilities  Angry  Switched to Ubuntu Linux  Wink

X-Plane is a great sim but lacking even to fs9...mostly because of the limited add-ons available & a much smaller design team then microsoft

Some of the highlights in my opinion are:

Great default terrain mesh and textures....
Silky smooth FPS....
Great flight dynamics....

But a few things really need improvment:
No AI aircraft  Tongue
The weather engine needs work  Tongue
By default none of the airports have buildings Tongue
ATC needs major work
No default flight planner....a good payware product called goodway is available

But overall its a great sim, although not a direct replacement for the MSFS series

I've user X-Plane 5-8 and liked them. Their flight engine is much more realistic than FSs but graphically it isn't nearly as good.
I've got X8 and FS9 on my rig at home and fly them both.

Thanx for the opines!  I knew I'd get a decent feel for what's up with it by asking the experts. Cool
