If you want, I can bring this up. I'm sure with enough support from the members, something like this could be started, although I'm not sure about a prize being able to be offered for the winner.
From what I understand, it can be rather hard just getting the one for the Freeware contest.

But if it is something the payware crowd is willing to really get behind, I'll volunteer to run it, so there will be no reason to turn it down on that front. Wink

Let me know guys. Smiley

I can't see any reason why we couldn't have both a freeware and a payware comp.

I can't see why you can't have two Flight Simulator installations ... I have that - especially for the contest Roll Eyes

Well Shane, I don't think a prize is really necessary although it would be nice. I'd be one of the judges if was able to still enter. Just wouldn't be able to vote for myself.  Grin How would that work. Grin  Maybe this months winners are next months judges for the pics that the members vote on.

Well I do have all of those. But it would be nice to be able to use FSX which is the top Sim. Don't get me wrong I still love and use all the rest of them.

This would definitely have to be a member driven/organized type deal.
And the three winners of the previous month could be the judges, and would pick the 6 best shots, with a mod (most likely me) there to solve the problem if all three judges pick similar shots, by noming what is needed to make the 6. Then it would be open to poll by the members to pick the three, and the cycle should self sustain itself.

This would also probably be done in the studio V section, rather than having it's own little home on the board like the official site contest.

But for a true payware contest, should there be a minimum on the amount of payware shown/used?
Should it be all or nothing, or as long as something is payware, it counts.
I know this problem arises in the freeware section sometimes.

I'd say as long as something is payware, it counts. Freeware is OK as long as there is some payware such FEX or REX.

Thats not the way it is in the freeware contest. If there is any payware at all it's out.

Harold, yeah the water does look a bit wicked huh?  I'm still tweaking the settings haha, like I said, FS9 is still my major flyer, I just spend an hour or two each night tweaking and flying on FSX while I make the change over.

As for this new contest, here's my suggestion.  Set it up exactly like the freeware contest.  Have a theme, one entry per contestant to ensure they enter their best.  No prize would be available as the stakes would be unfair.  One person could enter a pic with $5 worth of payware trees in the shot, and another could enter a shot with $400 worth of payware and blow it away.

Yeah we have JC's, but it might be fun for members to do one like the freeware comp but using their payware so they can see where they match up against others.

How does this sound:

It would work very similar to a cross between the monthly best of,and the JC contest:

-Each entrant would post his shot as a link in the thread without the img tags,

-then the previous months top three winners picking 6 shots, with me/other mods(?) acting as a 4th judge to pick some if the judges all pick similar shots.

-finally, the 6 shots would be presented as in the monthly best of contest and open to poll vote by the members.

-The top three finalists would then be the judges for next months contest.

Were thinking along the same lines. It will definitely be more competitive. Battle of the payware.  Grin  And I don't necessarily think you need a ton of payware. Sometimes a little goes a long way. It's a matter of how you use it along with a little talent and imagination. Let's hope this takes off. Let's get some input from the rest of you members. Didn't mean to hi-jack this thread. Shane will move it if it needs to be.

Grin Grin Grin Superpowers huh?  I just had beer come out my nose while reading this!

I think we should probably set up a poll thread with a simple yes or no vote for support on this.

Superpowers, that's funny stuff. Grin

I think it is an excellent idea and also like Shane's suggestion on how to set it up.

Indeed, it needs to pass through higher administration before we can promise anything as it will take up more bandwidth and server space with with the new forum.  If it shows a huge member interest though, chances are that SimV Gods may smile down on us though, they do aim to please.

This has probably been mentioned before in the many years SimV has been around and for some reason it hasn't stuck or never took off, so there could be an unknown issue getting this kicked off.  Either that or the support just wasn't great enough.  Either way, we'll do what we can on our end if you show enough support and demand for this.
