Alright so I purchased the Alphasim Big E and I'm REALLY confused. It's very complex to set up. I got all the way to putting it in the addon scenery and everything, but it's very messed up. 1. I can't launch or trap. 2. When I contact ATC and request for takeoff, they tell me to go to runway 1, I don't have the option to go to another runway. 3. Runway 1 doesnt have a cement blast protector. 4. I don't know how to get hooked up to the launch and initiate the protector. 5. The AI aircraft launch without getting hooked up or anything, they just go. 6. The runway launch blast protector on the front section of the ship is locked in the upright position. 7. At night some of the surfaces become transparent at night.  Shocked

As you can see I'm having a lot of trouble with setting this up, and I do realize that these problems can be solved, I just need help finding those solutions. Remember, I've gotton to the point of getting the ships into the game and the AI aircraft as well. I need lots of help so If you know how to fix something dont hesitate to tell me. Thanks a LOT in advance. Smiley

I'll bite.  For starters, this package isn't that hard to install.  It's a scenery package with some AI as I understand it.  Once you have it activated as part of your Addon Scenery Library, it should be working ok.

As far as not being able to do cat shots or arrested landings, to my knowledge, that isn't part of their package.  Instead you need a 3rd party launch/arresting program like 3 Wire or the RCB guage.  The carrier takeoff and landing function has to be part of the individual model you are flying, I don't think it can be a generic thing like you are talking about.

As far as the runway thing, AS uses an afcad file for the boats which permits AI to be flightplanned to/from the ship.  At least I think that's how they do it.  I just have the freeware trial version of the package that does not include all the bells and whistles.  Since it uses an afcad file, the ATC function will tell you to taxi to a runway, that's a function of the FS9 ATC engine and not the carrier scenery package.

Now this is funny.  Here's their product description right off of their sales page for this package:

© AlphaSim 2005

USS Enterprise Scenery

** FS2004 and FSX SP1 only **

Features :

- EIGHT locations - English Channel, Norfolk, San Diego, Yankee Station (Vietnam), Sicily, Gulf Of Oman, Hawaii, Jacksonville, PuertoRico, and WashingtonState
- includes full AI-enabled Afcads and dedicated carrier-optimized AI aircraft and AI traffic files
- beta-tested by actual Naval Aviator with Enterprise experience
- highly detailed, landable vessel with authentic lighting (day & night) and realistic wake textures
- working 'meatball'
- optional deck position start points (at catapults or on elevator)
- cat shots and wire traps are possible with ABACUS Flight Deck 3 and 4 (or Vietnam Carrier Ops) installed
- carefully optimised for high framerates
- three types of static aircraft on deck (F-14, S-3 and A-6)
- all three deck aircraft types included as AI models
- two alternative static aircraft deck layouts (Launch & Recovery) available
- 'deck furntiture' included (mules, crane)
- navaids - VOR, ILS, NDB
- high level of customer support guaranteed with specific section in our forums
- great basis for user expansion - expect AI flight plans, AFCADs etc

I've highlighted the two important parts.  The first confirms that you need a 3rd party program to do traps and cat launches.

The second..........  They killed their support forum a month or so ago.  So much for that promise.  I would recommend a direct email to them for support.

I emailed them about 2 months ago for support on the Rutan 61, and I'm still waiting on the reply. For a developer who I have a lot of respect for and the fact that their aircraft are fantastic, I am deeply dissapointed with this total lack of response.

If you do email them carter, good luck to you mate. Hope it goes better for you than it did for me

That likely tells you that few folks here a SimV have the add-on.  Or that others have not seen issues so have nothing to share.

I don't know what's going on over there these days.  I too used to be a huge fan, not so any more.  Too many broken promises and outright deceptive advertising or misleading statements.  As an example I purchased their AH-64A because they flat out said that they would not be making the AH-64D Longbow version for FS9.  That's the version that I really wanted and was willing to wait for it.  So I purchased the A model and although somewhat disappointed was fairly happy with it.  Then low and behold about 4-5 months after they specifically said they would not be producing the Longbow, what do you know, they release the Longbow Apache for FSX and FS9.  Of course there was no discount for anyone who already bought the A model.

That was the final straw for me personally.  Then they shut down their forums so no one can get support for their products.  Not a good way to treat your customers.

Yeh, I have to agree on that aspect. I'm still waiting on the C-17, but with the amount of work thats gone into it, I wouldn't be surprised if its an FSX only release due to the limitations within FS9.

Other than that, I have no more intentions of buying from alphasim unless they release something completely breathtaking.

Shame really  Sad
