I just installed my Matrox TH2G with three 22" monitors. Looks stunning. However, my FPS have taken a major hit and I don't know why. If FSX is a CPU driven game, the monitor shouldn't have an affect on it, right? My CPU is a Q6600 at 3.275ghz. I was getting over 50FPS some of the time. Almost always above 30 until now. I am seeing 6-10 FPS on Level-D 767 and 10-12 on default.

I use a GTX 280 video card---one of the fastest available. I have it OC'd slightly. Do I need to adjust nHancer? The tech at Matrox said "oh, I see you are using nHancer. We don't support running with that installed"

hmmm, why?

of course your frames dropped.. your running a massive resolution for the tHD  and that hits the CPU like a ton of bricks

Nope.. nothing I can suggest other than upgrade the CPU and clock it like mad

you can try droping the AA to Combined 4xS instead of 8 or just 4x Multisample but shimmers may come back

What CPU should I get to go with my 780i board?

I would think the higher res would hit the GPU hard, not the CPU. Why is that?

Should I still load nHancer?

Is how FSX is made. Its a CPU/memory subsystem nightmare

The 280 is not known for high res high AA perf either.

I can't estimate what your motherboard and memory will do stable but you need to be on a 9650 clocked 450FSB x 9 (4050MHZ) and at least DDR2 1066 memory that will run 1080 like Corsairs black 2x2GB 5-5-5 1066 sticks. The motherboad, like the Asus Rampage Formula, has to be able to do that FSB stable so it can not be some cheap x38 mortherboad... I just got Vic off that Nvidia board he was on and into a x48 motherboard recently.

I dont know if your board will run that high or not. he only other thing you could do would be to switch to a Xtreme processor that allows the multiplier for 400MHz FSB

you are also flying iron that sucks the life out of a CPU too so the combination of the resolution and the aircraft is killing your perf

Nvidia has not been doing very well lately with their boards.. some are great and others just dont want to clock stable

You would need a good CPU cooler too.. like the OCZ Vendetta2

I have 4 x 1gb of Corsair Dominator 1066. I was told that using 4 x1gb would maximize bandwidth better than 2 x 2gb. Is that not correct?

I have loosened the timings on the RAM slightly. I am also running the Q6600 now at 3.4ghz with no crashes yet (knock wood).

I use a Vendetta 2 cooler already and my temps NEVER get above 52Ί at 100% load. It was a very good purchase!

I'm wondering if nHancer is loading correctly. Is there a way to name a profile like "FSX" so I know it's on? Each time I open it I must scroll to find the FSX settings again. Do I just highlight it and then quit? Or must I enter all the settings from your guide each time?

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who told you 4x1GB is better than 2x2GB?   thats a crock!

4x1GB typically forces a user to losen timing which in turn SLOWS the memory down.

2x2GB will typically run tighter timing with much higher stability

Nhancer is set and go once done its done

Int the top dropdown typer FSX and the FSX profile will appear...

Once set nothing is going to change those settings unless you open the Nvidia driver control and make a AA or other drive change there... which you should NEVER do

here are the directions and they are quite specific wityh a link to images in how to set it up

The Q6600 will safely do 3.6GHz at a max load temp (reading the core diode) of 73c...  heck it can go to 80c and still not damage the processor.

i have a TH2Go setup here, driven by a singlt 8800GTX 768MB.. and i haven't noticed such a massive drop on frames from when i had FSX on a single screen...

but what Nick said it's true... it's a LOT of pixels to draw... running 3 screens @ 1280x1024, if you think of it in megapixels, is a lot more than even the highest supported res on your GPU...

anyway... it seems odd that you had such a massive drop... try fiddling with your graphics settings... maybe you have something on that's taking a load that's exponentially increased by the huge number of pixels to push... like AA or other pixel effect (like bloom maybe?)

good luck with that... TH is awesome and it's certainly possible to have decent frames in FSX with it... just not at the same settings as you had before

Cheers

Harvest--just sent you a PM.

I can't get any help for my TH2G problems. Is there a forum that is devoted to setting these up?

I now have three 22" monitors that are all the same. I am running at 4320 x 900. I couldn't get to 5040 x 1050 because they drop the mhz to 57 from 60. The Acer monitors don't support it.

The image is stunning at 4320x900. I'm happy with it. The frame rates seem to be pretty good too. I have a GTX 280 card that is overclocked. It seems to handle the resolution fine.

However, I do have some problems:

When I change views in the game, I get a black screen and "loading" each time. This is killing me--literally--as it caused me to crash once! How do I make the change fast like it was before?

I have a small spinning circle that stays on my cursor point the entire time. If I want to use the mouse to fly, it never goes away and interferes with the motion. Any thoughts about that?

Any settings you recommend would be appreciated.

If you are on Vista make sure you have the multimonitor update

I do not use the THtG so Harvester would probably be a better source of information about it

Is that a FSX specific patch or something for all Vista users?

I found this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ff1e7500-4bab-4b44-81e0...

Is that right?

Thats the one

You should probably make sure you are running Vista SP1 too as it addresses a number of perf issues

It says that the update does not apply to my system. I'm on Vista 64 SP1. I am running FSX Acceleration.

Thoughts?

Then you already have the update which was included with SP1

Hi... Steve i sent you a PM, but i'll post it here too for future reference

the TH2GO causes a delay when changing resolutions... that could explain why you're having those black screens, but i does seem odd that it's happening in-game, as that delay only happens when the adapter is changing resolutions

judging by the resolution you mentioned, i assume you're using the digital version of TH2Go... i only have the analog version, so it might be something related to that particular version

there is this site i found, that's dedicated to widescreen and surround support on gaming, not to mention they have a huge list of games and their solutions for enabling widescreen and surround support.

www.widescreengamingforum.com

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks for the info HarvesteR! I'll check it out.

Nick--I have a BFG GTX280 as my video card. It's the OC version. Would overclocking it even though it comes "overclocked" help with the higher resolutions that the TH2G is using?

If so, how do I do that? haha I have EVGA Precision from the last EVGA card (260) and it allows me to slide the scale to make changes. I just don't have any idea what to set it on.
