ok got the new rampage Extreme mobo installed. Basically setup the defaults to get started. Using the same hd's that I had in the Rampage Formula I tried to boot into XP. Got to the desktop and all icons loaded and system hung - no mouse - no keyboard ( both USB BTW). Rebooted into safemode - get to the screen where you have to click ok to continue in safe mode and no mouse - no keyboard.

They work fine in setup.

I was hoping that I could install the mobo drivers in safe mode but if the Keyboard & mouse won't work..??

My LAST resort is a repair install of XP but I'd like to explore any other options. Considering the similarity between the Rampage Formula nad the Rampage Extreme, I would have thought the drivers would have been compatible enough to at least get me into safe mode.

Any thoughts???

Thanx,

Vic

Whew - found the problem - was able to get into safemode prompt and run msconfig. Disabled everything and rebooted - fine - remembered I had memset set to load memory save settings for DDR2 memory - removed and now I am able to boot and am starting to install the new mobo drivers

always something  Smiley

hmmmmm

New platform I always clean install

never do a repair.. you are asking for nothing but trouble

but since you are going from x48 DDR2 to x48 DDR3 going into safe mode and clearing things may work

but be aware in the future its usually best to clean install
