I have recently reseated with silver paste the cooler on the cpu & improved temps a lot.

With the use of this OCing instructions:- http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=149050, I managed to go to 3.2ghz stable for a couple of hrs, but have been unable to get below 56c, & the grfx card shows 60c.

Static gives core temps 33c & below versus 23c at stock 2.4c.

I failed miserably to reach 3.6ghz.

As I will only be using this 3.2mgz OC now & then for fs9 where it only reaches 47c, I avoided P95 testing for long hrs., am I justified to feel it should be safe for this?

Could anybody suggest how to lower the core temps?

The second scrnshot was at LHR & bad WX with UK VFR Foto scenery & Terrain, the worst load I get.

Room Temp 20c

OCZ Vendetta2

http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/cooling_products/ocz_vendetta_2_cpu_cooler

56c if its reading the CPU diode is not overheating or anywhere near it. Overheating on a Q6600 would be 73c+ as read in Coretemp

The software OCCT and its 1 hour load test will telll you where you stand for stability and heat. It will MAX the CPU/memory out and if you can pass a 1 hour OCCT run and not exceed 73c, your good to go

I give kudos to the Vendetta 2.  It cools as well or better than the TRUE I had and it weighs much less and is cheaper.  Also, don't use Artic Silver anymore, use OCZ Freeze.  Works just as well, no breakin period, and it lasts longer.  And get a good high static pressure fan for the V2.  The fan will make a hugh difference with how well the V2 works.  A cheap fan will cost you 5 deg or more of performance.   These are really good fans:

Thanx NickN,

I presume the temps in RealTemp & HWMonitor are reading CPU diode.

Would your "Scythe 120 PWM " fan fit in this Vendetta2, as the stock one seems noisy.

Which one did you mean as there are so many here:-
http://www.google.co.uk/products?sourceid=navclient&hl=en-GB&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLJ,G...

Or do I have to make some kind of a bracket to fit it on the fins?.

I have another tower with the Asus Rampange Extreme using the OCZ Vendetta 2
basically the same cooler but with direct copper pipe contact and I replaced the fan

".......with a Scythe 120 PWM which is very quiet....."

will try OCCT & post.

I vouch for the Vendetta 2 as well. I also use Freeze for the paste.

My 3.4ghz Q6600 idles at 24Ί and never gets above 52Ί at 100% load according to CoreTemp.

The V2 is awesome!

occt is tougher than p95 needing FSB Term. V up to 1.40 for 1hr test.

Luke

did any of those numbers exceed 75-80c and did it pass the 1hr test?

Then there is nothing to worry about

OK made it to 3.2, max temps were 54c.

I was surprised you asked of the temps, then I noticed the scrnshot was of when at idle.

I just managed 3.4 @ 65c with these, but unfortunately not because I know what am really doing, more of a hunch & flook, but I think am learning a bit on the way, thanks to people like you & that clear write up I mentioned earlier:-
