Car traffic does not appear everywhere. You have to be in or close to a big city with major roads/highways.

Has any traffic.bgl file been added to the Scenery-World-Scenery folder? I recall hearing that adding FS9-style traffic.bgl files messes up all the FSX AI, including vehicles and boats, if placed in this folder. Look for FP_FS9_FSX_AI by Peter van der Veen, this will permit converting FS9-compatible .bgl's into something that works with FSX.

The program is AIFPC by Peter van der Veen. The d'load link is in message #57.

It's as 'simple' as decompiling the FS2004 traffic.bgl files and then compiling in FSX format....It's safest to not work in the FSX folder.

After you've extracted the AIFPC.zip file.......

In the AIFPC program folder create 2 new sub-folders, FS9 and FSX. Move your FS2004 format 'traffic*.bgl' files from your ..\FSX\Scenery\World\scenery folder to the ..AIFPC\FS9\ folder.

Run AIFPC.exe and in Options, activate 'Add FSX or FS9 to end of BGL file name'. This will avoid confusion later.

In the top line (Flightplan file/Traffic BGL file) browse to and select 1 of the FS9 traffic*.bgl' files. Set the Outpt Path to ..\AIFPC\FS9\. Click Decompile and in a few seconds you'll get a message that the decompiling is done.

Next, in the top line, browse to and select the 'flightplan*.txt'. Set the output path to AIFPC\FSX\. Select Compile target=FSX, and put a check in 'Convert FS9 airports.......' and 'Renumber FS9 days.....'.

Click Compile. you'll see progress and get a message when it's done.

Copy or move your new 'traffic*_FSX.bgl' files back to FSX and that's it. (Make sure you have not left any FS9 files in FSX.)

If you have many files to convert, practice on a couple first. You can then 'batch' by selecting multiple files to decompile or compile.

Thank you very much,Dave! But I'm not sure which one file I have in FS9 format and have to compile/decompile. And why FS9 type .bgl files is in my FSX dir? This is really hard to understand for me.

If you have added any traffic files to FSX the chances are that they are FS9 format. Even those from PAI and WOAI.

The the default aircraft ai traffic file in FSX is 'trafficAircraft.bgl'.

If you have any other traffic files, decompile them and then look in the 'flightplans*.txt' file that AIFPC generates. If they are true FSX traffic files the top line will read '//FSXDAYS=TRUE'. If that line is missing then they are FS9 files and need to be compiled in FSX format.

After all is said though, I am not sure this is the problem with your car traffic. An FS9 traffic file will disable the default aircraft and large boat traffic, but the small boat and hwy. car traffic are spawned in a different way. I installed an FS9 ai traffic file and while the default aircraft and ship traffic went missing, the cars were still running.

Ok,I have decompiled all my traffic_blah_blah.bgls,looked in flightplans*.txt, and all they have //FSXDATS=TRUE line. So,I think the problem is somewhere else... Roll Eyes

I don't have the SDK, so I don't have any docs to refer to, but from what I've picked up......

Have you checked to see if you have any small/leisure boat traffic? or general airport vehicle traffic (not those associated with parking)?

I believe this traffic along with the cars on highways are defined in the 'LWcfg.spb' file, located in the same folder as your fsx.cfg file.

This traffic is  much like autogen in that it generated when certain scenery features are present.

Check the traffic I mentioned, and we'll go from there.
