Just got the card and was fixing to install and wrap up this build when I stumbled upon a problem.

You have this big connector which easily plugs into the the socket on the right side of the MOBO as it should for power and what have you.........

There is an 8 pin ATX power connector as well that should plug into the top left corner of my board............It dosen't reach at all.

Am I screwed? Do I need both to power the MOBO??????? If I do........................!@#$ !!!!

Any suggestions other than obviously returning the PSU for one with longer connections would be great at this point in time.

In the mean time while I am waiting on a helpful reply, recon I'll have a cig and a beer to calm down......................

Make sure that 8pin is indeed the MB plug and not the new fangled 8pin ATi connector. If all you have is one I am sure it is the MB plug however YES it must be plugged in and you should be able to get an extention for it (make sure its the right one) or take that PSU back and get a good one. BFG is not a good name PSU (if that is what you got from Best Buy) they are known for cheating on their specs and running hot, and running the components hot because of low current ability

So, they do make extensions for it? Thank God!

Where would I look for said extension? Best Buy? Radio Shack? At this point in time I am at a loss for where my receipt is although I know it's here somewhere. The extension will have to do for now as long as I can get the Damn thing local.

Thanks Nick

that i cant tell you right off hand. I have never had to look for one but I have seen them over the years. I doubt you will find something like that at BB or RS but go online and look. Its the 8pin PSU plug.

More than likely you will need to order it from a regular computer supply place

I dont get how that could be too short.. what is this a server tower? If so does it give you an option to mount the PSU in the top and the bottom?

It does not make sense that plug is too short unless it just a junk PSU not designed very well

It's the Antec 900 Case. PSU mounts on the bottom. all of the connectors comming out of this are actually to long for where they have to go except for the 8 pin connector. I could stretch it across the MOBO and make it work but it would be tight and if I do that there is noway I can't install the Vid Card....... I need at least a good 4-6 inches more to hook up and tie off out of the way after connection.

OK, that is exactly what I do in my P35 and X38 towers, run it up the center of the mobo between the back side of the PCI slot and the video card (there is a space at the end of the slot where the card stands off 3/8-1/2 of an inch) and then pass it up to the plug. Just make sure the wires are not laying across any heatsinks that get hot

as long as the cable is FLAT to the motherboard it wont interfere with airflow

Tou mean its 4 inches short even if you pass it across the motherboard strait up to the connector as i posted above??

Take that PSU back and et another one and this time open it and measure the cable

Ok now I have an Antec 650 with the same friggin problem. However, I was informed that a 4 pin connector will work as well so long as I am not using say 6 HDDS. There is actually a cap on for of the 8 pins on the socket. I will look into this further...............

Disreguard last. Got the 8 pin to seat nicely with just enough to tie it off out of the way. A snip here and there and I should be ready to power up in about a half hour or so. Wish me luck guys!!

Thanks again Nick. I am sure I will have program questions next. Running Vista Premium 64 Bit. Gotta go!  The zipties are calling me Grin

I dont know what yahoo told you that but it has nothing to do with the HDD's it has to do with the processer

If you are on a quad it better be all 8 plugged in A dual core can run with 4 but newer boards really prefer the 8 pin even on dual core. At any rate you can get away with 4 on a dual but it may be limited on the clock and dont even think about running less than the full monty on a quad
