Greetings All, has anyone got a clue regarding my problem please. It concerns the mission: "Arrival at Henderson" in the "87 Days of Cactus" package. I have flown this mission many times as it is one of my favourites but as of late as soon as it starts I receive a message to tell me all three enemy A/Cs have been destroyed.
I have not made any changes to the mission, I have even reloaded it in case the original had become corrupted somehow but still the three enemy planes are destroyed immediately. Ace.....

Any assistance would be most gratefully accepted. I'm clueless.

Many thanks in advance. Graham.

Odd that it worked before. What are the AI aircraft involved? It may be something to to with the AI models. You might try changing the start positions, perhaps spread them out a little.

Go to the Mission Builder and find the Mission you are looking for and open it. See what kind of disignation these enemy AC have and what kind of formation they are flying in. For example are they designated as Rokies or veteran are they flying to close to a Mountain or to each other and change it. Perhaps you should use stock AC instead of the addon AC in the missions use.If this does not work. Its problably a bigger problem but relative easy to fix.

I hope you do have a backup CFS install. If you do, all you need to do is to look for the file call CFS2. It contains all the basic CFS2 engines cammands. Sometime it bacomes corrupt. Replace it the your backup CFS2 cammand file.

When you open it up it should have a cammand list similar to this:

Its longer than this. This is only a example for you to understand you have the right foler when you Open it. Just replace it with a uncorrupt one.

If you do not have a backup than you need to go where the Combat Flight Simulator2 Folder is located . Change its name from Combat Flight Simolator 2 to something else and make a new install. Than slowly install your upgrades from the older Install to the New one with exception of the files. In other word only copy and paste the Folders from the older CFS2 Install to the New Install. Do not do copy and paste the files.

Here is Web page which will help you reinstall CFS2 without you lossing all of your AC addon install:
http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2faq.htm
Remember for you to choose CFS2 command keys and not CFS1 command Keys or you may lose your ability to hear your command sounds throught your Radio command to your wingman.

If this does not work please come back and will try some thing else.

Roger that James.

I am running the mission exactly as it is, nothing added, modified nor taken away. So it must be pointing in the direction of your letter. Funnily, it is the only mission that has suddenly decided to play up, although I do have other ones I am having other problems with from day one! They are for some other day...
Will have a look at the list above in my kit and will report back.
Many thanks for your reply.
Graham.

Before you do anything too drastic, I'd open the mission in Mission Builder and check the waypoints for the flight of dive bombers.  Make sure that waypoint #1 is over water.  Also check that the altitudes and airspeeds at their four waypoints is as follows:
#1 3500', - 210 kts, #2 2000', - 220 kts, #3 1000', - 220 kts, #4 4000', - 200 kts.

If everything checks out, try changing their formation to Fingertip.  If they still crash at the start of the mission then drop me a PM and I can send you a good version.

Cody & James, many thanks indeed for your inputs. I have looked at the Mission Builder but cannot find any Waypoints in it. I have taken the liberty of including below a print out of it to see if it is making any sense. Could the lack of the Waypoints be the problem? Many thanks in advance. Graham.

That's not the mission file you posted, that's your cfs2.cfg fie.  Your mission files are stored in your MISSIONS folder.

Are you saying that you started Mission Builder, selected the "Arrival at Henderson" mission and didn't see any waypoints?

Arfyhun the CFG does not effect the mission directly but perhaps some time inderectly. My best suggestion if you to follow Cody_Coyote advice and change the mission settings yourself.

Sorry fellows for posting the wrong list.
If I open my Missions folder and select the Henderson mission and look at it, it is the stock mission as-is. Nothing added, modded nor, taken away. I have put a fresh copy into the game and still the A/Cs get destroyed as soon as the game starts.
The mission does have waypoints, the ones originally written. I can see changing them may stop the destruction but the mission worked many times with the original waypoints before suddenly playing up.
Am I leading you round in circles? If so, my apologies.
It seems the only way forward with this problem would be for me to change the waypoint values but I have no idea what values to write. Would it help if I posted the Waypoint part of the mission for you to see?

Many thanks. Graham.

I'm a bit more familiar with CFS1 formatting where waypoints and formations are in their own respective orders but here's a section from a stock CFS2 mission [ace07_ijn.mis = "Aces--Sugita's Mission"]:

[formation.0]
id=6007
type=air
waypoint_path_id=5201
alternate_path_id=5202
directive=2
hidden=1
suspended=1
formation_type=1
unit_id_position.0=9078,0,0.0,0.0,0.0
unit_id_position.1=9079,0,-300.0,-600.0,0.0
unit_id_position.2=9080,0,300.0,-600.0,150.0
unit_id_position.3=9081,0,600.0,-1200.0,150.0

[waypoint_path.0]
id=5201
waypoint.0=1,0,S9* 17.53',E159* 25.87',+9500,,,,280,,0,0,1
waypoint.1=4096,0,S9* 11.65',E159* 24.17',+11000,,,,270,,0,0,1

In the Formation info above, the unit_id_positions provide the location of each aircraft common to the 1st plane's (unit_id_position.0) reference point. It determines their distance from one another.

In the Waypoint info, the first waypoint's (waypoint.0)
S9* 17.53' is the latitude entry for the 1st warp,
the E159* 25.87' is the longitude entry;
the +9500 is the altitude of appearance at that waypoint;
the 280 is a relative speed upon warp entry.

Cool

I highly recommend for you to DL Cody_Coyote new Mission Building Hand book here http://www.simviation.com/fshelp.htm and look for  Coyote's CFS2 Mission Building Handbook in the CFS2 section.

Thank you gentlemen for two ace inputs. They have given me the direction to go. All I need now is the answer as to why the mission went twp (Welsh for "mad") in the first place. Mind you, in another mission I never played until a week or two ago, as I take off all the planes parked on the other carrier (or is it the one I'm on...) wipe one another out. And of course there's the WW1 mission in CFS1 where all the enemy planes fly like loonies in huge vertical circles as approach. Something I ate, perhaps? Cracking!!!
Any old excuse not to fly! If I find the CFS2 mission again, I'll let you know.
Am I lucky, or what?!
Many thanks indeed fellows. Graham.

Hello again chaps, I've had a look for the Waypoints. They are set up as the mission was written. As below:

[unit.2]
id=9206
type_id=3874
name=%name_string.2%
allegiance=4
skill=2
aggression=2
payload=3

[unit.3]
id=9207
type_id=3874
name=%name_string.3%
allegiance=4
skill=2
aggression=2
payload=3

[unit.4]
id=9208
type_id=3874
name=%name_string.4%
allegiance=4
skill=2
aggression=2
payload=3

[formation.1]
id=6001
type=air
waypoint_path_id=5005
directive=2048
formation_type=3
points=1
unit_id_position.0=9206,0,0.0,0.0,0.0
unit_id_position.1=9207,0,300.0,-600.0,0.0
unit_id_position.2=9208,0,600.0,-1200.0,0.0

[waypoint_path.1]
id=5005
waypoint.0=1,0,S9* 21.16',E160* 24.04',+3500,,,,210,,0,0,1
waypoint.1=16777216,0,S9* 19.81',E160* 20.11',+2000,,,,220,,0,1,1
waypoint.2=16777216,0,S9* 19.30',E160* 16.27',+1000,,,,220,,0,1,1
waypoint.3=4096,0,S9* 2.70',E160* 10.01',+4000,,,,200,,0,0,1

Everything exactly as originally written. So it must be a bug somewhere else!?

I think it might be easier if I just switch to "mission two!".

Some things just aren't meant to be....Graham.
