Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a way to make AI bombers drop all their bombs instead of a single one. This includes addon aircrafts of course...

Does someone knows something about it?

thanks

In fact, AI bombers drop one of all the kind of weapons it has in its payload.

If you creat a new payload in the DP file of an aircraft with a wep_us_250lb_gp, a wep_us_500lb_gp, a wep_us_1000lb_gp and a wep_us_2000lb_gp. Then the bomber should drop 4 bombs.

So if you have 8 250lbs bombs, each with a different name (different DP and BGL files), the bomber should drop 8 250lbs bombs...

I don't know if it's clear  Huh

I don't know how to creat new weapons, but i think i can learn...

i know on SOH there is a dp update to allow the AI to drop salvos or groups of bombs all at once.
dont know if its here at simV though

I think that AI salvo over at the Outhouse is just a smoke and mirrors trick. It's just a single bomb modeled to look like a salvo so at least the AI appear to be dropping more than one bomb even though they really don't.  To my knowledge, no one has actually been able to get the AI to drop more than a single bomb.

Sorry for late answer!

and... please don't laught at my poor english, if something is not clear, just tell me !

I've edit the DP file of the 1% B17E, so that the PAYLOAD.2 appears this way (using a weapons pack that i can't remember where i found it):

[PAYLOAD.2]
; Payload = AI
mount.1=WEP_DB_US_500lb_GP_a, 8, 2
mount.2=WEP_DB_US_500lb_GP_d, 8, 3
mount.3=WEP_DB_US_500lb_GP_c, 8, 4
mount.4=WEP_DB_US_500lb_GP_b, 8, 5
mount.5=WEP_DB_US_1000lb_GP_a, 8, 6
mount.6=WEP_DB_US_1000lb_GP_b, 8, 7
mount.7=WEP_DB_US_1000lb_GP_c, 8, 8
mount.8=WEP_DB_US_1000lb_GP_d, 8, 1

With such a payload you can't drop any bomb when flying the B17, but i obtain this for a single AI B17E, when "bombs' away":

g.rouby.free.fr/Images/drop1.jpg

with game speed x4...

With a x1 game speed i have this:

g.rouby.free.fr/Images/drop2.jpg

and with game speed x2 :

g.rouby.free.fr/Images/drop3.jpg

So it seems that it depends of many things that i don't really understand, like how many objects can cfs2 show at one time...

for example, if i put two flight of 3 B17, at game speed x4 the first flight drops 12 bombs per B17 and the second only 8, or something like that.

I've tryed many things and sometimes, with the same DP file, the B17s drops 4 or 5 or even only 1, or 12 (!) bombs. So i'm still searching for something steady...

AND IF SOMEONE KNOWS ANYTHING MORE ABOUT AI BOMBERS' BOMBS DROP, TELL ME!!!!!

thanks and bye!!

I was part of making the AI bombs at SOH. They are in fact one bomb modeled to look like a salvo. The damage effect was also raised to give the results of many bombs. If you could make the AI drop more than one, then you wouldn't need to build such a lame fix. The fact is, and you can try forever like I did, you cannot get a CFS2 AI to drop more than one bomb. It is coded into the game. If you could get M$ to sell you the source code, I would be glad to find a programmer to fix it up for you . . . .

Cool 1. I built several of the AI_Bombs posted on SOH.   They are, in fact, a single weapon model that was made with individual bombs as the various parts....so the weapon appears to be many bombs dropping at once...and yes they have a beefed up DP file that ups the damage to equal the appearance of the string.

Cry 2. I, like many folks, tried many ways of getting the AI to drop more than one bomb and failed.

Wink 3. I have not tried what you have stated here, but I see that it can work:

The weapons you are using in the sample payload are in my inventory.  You are using several types of 500 and 1000 pounders in the same payload.  These different weapons are in fact the same 500 and 1000 pounder models with different textures.....thus the a, b, c, etc. names.  And at game speed 1(normal) your screenshot shows the AI dropping ONE OF EACH weapon being carried.  And I can see how that is working for you.  I will have to try this to prove it.  This is significant if I can get it to work as well.  The AI is still just dropping one bomb......but one of each different bomb being carried.   Could be very nice.  In my experiments I never thought to try this.

Roll EyesNOTE: The first number in each of your mount-points in the example payload is 8, meaning you want 8 weapons to drop from each mount, and that won't happen.   Change that number from 8 to 1 and the payload will work in a player aircraft, and will not affect the AI performance.

Cool I posted most of the AI_Bombs.  Not a DP update, but a series of new weapon BGLs.   The DP mods are just to load the new weapon on the correct mount in the payload section of the DP.   For example, for the B-29 AI aircraft there is a weapon BGL for 8 bombs and one that appears as 16 bombs.  These weapons are posted on SOH under CFS2/Other, and there are many versions there for the 29, 17, 24, 25 and some of the Brit bombers as well.

They visually appear to be a salvo of bombs, not a string.  In other words, they all drop at once, as opposed to one after another as in a string.   So they will all hit the same point, but with the correct destructive force....damage points.

While this is 'smoke and mirrors' as Cody points out, it works rather well and looks very good.

When I said "smoke and mirrors" I hope no one took that as a negative comment.  I only meant that it is an optical trick to get around one of the many shortcomings of CFS2.  Until we actually crack this nut, it remains the most visually eye-pleasing solution to the problem.

I certainly did not take that as a negative comment in any way shape or form....nor do I think anyone else did either.   And the AI_Bomb BGLS are really just a 'work-around'. Smiley

I've got to find time this week to try a payload of assorted DB bombs on different mountpoints to see if this will work for me.  Cheesy

Undecided  I've tried to duplicate this result, but I cannot make it work and I used the same weapons you have listed in the test.

Anyhow.....here's what some of the AI_Bombs we designed look like dropping from the aircraft.   Works first time every time. Cool

well i'm not experimenting this anymore because it never have twice the same result.
But you can see that with 8 bombs in the payload i've managed (once or twice) to make the AI drop many more then 8 bombs... and a B-17 dropping 17 bombs is not more realistic then one dropping only one bomb...  Sad

NOTE: i think it is the second number that make the player unable to drop the payload because there is no "first bomb to be dropped" (-1).

good luck if you try to make it!!!

Cry  It would be wonderful, if you could get consistent results using your method.

Wink Truly, the first number is the number of weapons to be released from the mountpoint, and the second number is the next mountpoint in the release sequence:

If you find a -1 as the second number on mountpoint.1, this directs the release of the weapon on mountpoint.2 next.  Using the number 2 in this location would accomplish the same result.

This is the reason that on the last mountpoint you will usually see the last number set at 1, which directs the DP back to mountpoint.1.

The AI_Bombs for the stock B-25 and the stock B-24 are now available for download at SimV/CFS2/Aircraft/Newest.  Try them out...you might like them.  Cool
