Well, we all have our opinions... and I believe each team has its trademark. Wink

Let me put it this way; There's not a single one that is less than stunning. It's hard to separate them.

You are quite right. However if there was a world championship contest amongst these teams, then this is what would happen.

Thunderbirds and Blue Angels would think that it was a done thing and just a question of who was going to win between them.

The Frecce Tricolori  and Patrouille de France would think that it was a done thing and just a question of who was going to win between them.

The Russian Knights would think that they would win, Solid Russian values over Capitalist scum.

The Snowbirds would put on a good show as would the Swifts, but no one would really expect much.

And the Red Arrows. Well, the Reds would not attend, because they already know that they are the best.

Matt

PS, it is no joke, they REALLY would not attend.

Which is precisely why I'm comparing their individual performances Wink

EDIT; By the way, Matt, I'm curious. You're in Germany. Do Germany have a display team?

This is not meant to be a patriotic forum. Every display team listed has immense skill and talent... it's just a matter of personal preference. Please don't try to force people to pick a particular team.

Sorry but there's not much point to this type of poll. We've seen it all before many times. Most people will support their own country's team. It's only natural & the result will always reflect where the people who take the trouble to vote (& many members won't even look) either live or were born. It's impossible to give an unbiased view unless you've seen all the teams on the list with your own eyes. I've seen most of them at some time or another except for the Blue Angels, Snowbirds & the Russian teams. They are all good as they are the best of the best proudly representing their individual countries.

I know full well bias is unavoidable, but major bias isn't. Doesn't stop me being curious Smiley

Third in a row...

I think I can guess why the French haven't got a single vote...

Would you just confirm for me... Wink

OK then, apart from patriotism what criteria would you use to judge a national aerobatic display team? I would say it's an impossible task.

Not surprising as no French members have voted. Not seen the Patrouille de France for many years but they were always an excellent display team.

No. I believe ever since the Ramstein incident in 1988 they haven't (if I'm correct, their display team was the Vikings, consisting of two F-104s, although the F-104 could have been retired prior to 1988). Whether they had a team or not at the time, Ramstein certainly settled it.

I don't think other aerobatic teams are allowed to fly at German air displays, either.

I judge them by the following they have amassed. Which is what I am assessing right now!

Seriously, when I said 'non-patriotic' I meant please don't cite your reason as being 'they're from canada' or 'britain' or 'italy' or whatever. By all means hold your views, but do not try to force them upon everybody else. In a way, that is what bonair22 did, and I took umbrage. Sorry. Rant over.

Thanks tweek for answering my question - its just that all the major european countries have display teams, but I'd never heard of a German one. Seemed odd.

I've not angered anyone have I? Sorry if I have!

It's just a shame they don't exist anymore, and their superb aircraft of choice.

I wonder if the Starfighter was really good for an airshow.

Not really. I saw the Vikings at an air show in England in the 1980s. Can't remember if it was Greenham Common or Mildenhall. Very fast,  very noisy & very impressive but they were out of sight for at least half the display. http://www.fly-navy.de/vikings/vikings.html

The Belgian Air Force duo named The Slivers (1969 - 75) was the first display team in the world to use the F-104. They never had an accident.

I have a feeling of deja vu. We've discussed all this before.
