Boy that is a problem! Where are you trying to down load them from it is usually a simple task, but I do not know how computer savoy you are. Before you do any thing make your self a folder call it FSX AIRCRAFT HANGER or what ever you want just keep it out of the FSX folder and down load and unzip everything into that folder then move it over to where it belongs.
Without knowing where you are trying to download from it is diffuclt to guide you as each sight is a little different as to how it works. Cool

I'm guessing you mean how to add planes from the internet into your FS(?)

Click the file - Save to disc (create a folder for them) - The Unzip into a Temp folder (again create a folder to unzip into) - then follow the guidelines given here

http://www.simviation.com/acinstall.htm

If you have more Q's - tell us exactly what you have done & we can help futher. It's all very, very, easy stuff.

Think we need to update that tute for FSX. The procedure is slightly different.

PS. I suggest installing aircraft to the FSX\SimObjects\airplanes folder. Alternative methods involving editing fsx.cfg are too complicated for beginners to understand.

The *only* problem that I'd see is that people installing FS9 models with autoinstallers that look for the "Aircraft" folder in the main flightsim might have a problem....

In that case a simple edit to fsx.cfg would be the best way out. My advice would be not to use those darned auto-installers in the first place.

I agree with HAGAR on this one AUTO installers are nice but can really present problems if the person that made it does not get it quite right.  Like HAGAR I also sayDO NOT USE AUTO INSTALL PROGRAMS FOR ANY OF THE FS GAMES If you do you can not say we did not warn you! Wink

Perhaps I should qualify my statement. Auto-installers are fine providing they're properly configured by someone who knows what they're doing. They've been very popular with the CFS community with very few reported problems over many years. In fact I configured some of my own files & all the complex Fox Four campaigns as auto-installers. I've also configured files for other developers who trusted me to do it correctly. I not only thoroughly beta test these myself on a fresh install of CFS but also send them to trusted beta testers for double-checking. We never post the files until we're completely satisfied that they will work & that the install instructions are simple & easy to follow.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for many FS developers.

1. These little programs work in the same way as extracting zipfiles direct to FS - by overwriting files & folders - & overwriting default files often causes problems. This could be even worse when installing files intended for FS9 to FSX.

2. If the install path is directed to the wrong location the files inevitably end up in the wrong place & without knowing the file names will never be seen again. Needless to say the addon can't possibly work.

3. Finally, a popular utility used to create the auto-installers will (unless the option is deactivated each time it's used) create an uninstaller by default. Unfortunately this file is named Uninstal.exe (the same file name as the FS default uninstaller) which it overwrites. This will cause problems (a) if you use it to uninstall the addon & (b) if you ever want to uninstall FS.

It's much easier & far less bother to learn to install addons manually. An auto-installer shouldn't be necessary for a simple addon like an aircraft. IMHO

HAGAR. Just a comment.
Dont install anything into fsx as auto (yet). There are problems exp. with fs9. Open zip and paste into a home made folder, and copy whateveryougot in the right folders. You will find problems in fsx with, panel, gauges, sound etc, but keep on Hager. I'm looking closely

Thanks but you're preaching to the converted. I always take my own advice & install addons to all versions of FS manually. If it's not possible to redirect the install path to a temp folder I simply forget it.

I don't know which specific problems you have in mind. Using a properly configured FS9 auto-installer for FSX will create a new folder in the FSX root directory named Aircraft. This is where your new aircraft will be installed, just as in FS9. You can leave them there providing you edit FSX.cfg accordingly. (See Felix's topic "What Happened to the Aircraft folder?" in the FSX FAQ sticky.) They should work fine if they have their own panel & sound files but older gauges might be incompatible. Apart from the risk of overwriting default files the only problem I can foresee is a possible conflict if any included gauges have the same file prefixes as the FSX defaults. Plenty of downloads I've tried over the years have included default gauges although this is completely unnecessary.

From simviation.com, this is what i do

1. Obiously Click on the aircraft hyperlink
2. Obiously Click "Download now"
3. Hit open unzipped file
4. When the files come up, comtinue clicking on the folder with the
aircrafts name on it until u get into a folder that contains a file named "aircraft.cfg"
5. Hit open on the popup.
6. Hit select program from list
7. Hit browse
8. Find the folder "Microsoft Games"
9. Click "Microsoft Flight Simulator X"
10. Open the "Sim Objects" Folder
11. Go into aircraft
12. Go back to the files you got on the internet and paste the entire folder into your aircraft folder in FSX

Start up FSX and it should be there.

There are probably many different ways to do this, this is my way.

Its a lot simpler that it looks
