Taking pics on airliners (Read 456 times)

At the end of December, I'm flying from Newark to San Diego. Has it become less-than-appropriate to take pics on airliners and asking to get a shot of the cockpit after you land? I haven't flown commerically since pre-9/11 and I'm wondering if things have changed. Smiley

Last few flights I've just gone for it, in the terminal and on the plane... nobody's hassled me.Haven't seen any signs anywhere, nor do they mention cameras when they ask you to turn off laptops, iPods, etc. while taxiing or during climbout or approach. What's odd is that if you're on the other side of the airport fence taking pics, someone will be alarmed, usually. I'd also recommend not taking pictures inside the terminal until you've cleared security. I guess that's the key factor: once you've got a boarding pass and are cleared thru security, you are considered "safe".

Haven't asked to take a flight -deck photo only because I'm always in a big rush on these trips... if you wait so that you're not holding anybody up and play the "I'm a kid" card heavily, they'll probably be happy to let you take a pic there. Might even let you climb into one of the driver's seats... somebody on these forums got a shot of that; can't remember who.

Usually if you talk to the flight crew and explain your airplane addiction to them they won't mind.  But it is pretty much going to be up to the captain and his mood that day.

always ask when the flight attendants are not busy. I asked on my flight home from the US if I could get a shot of the flight deck when we landed, and she said I could.
However we then stole the blankets as we wanted payback for a lengthy delay. So a quick exit was warrented. Wink Grin

There's one thing I really really regret. 4 years ago, when I was 11, I was in a flight from Lima to Miami and the plane was taxiing, the FO was the brother of one of my mother's co-workers so she said to me that the FO had told her that during the takeoff, if I wanted, I could go to the cockpit. I said no because I was "afraid". I didn't appreciate planes until 14! I really really really regret. Embarrassed

When I flew to Aussie a few years ago with Quantas I was allowed to sit in the cockpit during the journey Grin

You lucky sod!  Shocked
The last time I was in the cockpit of an airliner was about 6 years ago on my way to East Midlands from Gran Canaria on a Britannia 767. They let me and my Uncle stay in the cockpit for a while to watch the sunrise over the horizon. In my memory I can still see all the brilliant lights in the cockpit.... it was very magical and that was the moment that got me hooked on wanting to be a pilot!  Smiley 

Nowadays I just take a sneaky photo of the cockpit (If the doors open) when I exit the aircraft... Like so.... Wink
...

Bonus points if anyone can tell me the aircraft!  8)

@ EGNX; its some type of Tupolev. Back in 2004 when my parents and I went for a holiday to the US I was allowed in the cockpit of a Ted A320. And on the way back I was allowed into the United 747 cockpit.  After they had landed though. Smiley
