Removing the yoke on the VC, 3D cockpit panel..? (Read 711 times)

...I know it's sacrilege, but.....
....on my General Aviation piston prop aeroplanes...

Is there a way of removing the animated yoke from the VC 3D cockpit... Wink

I have been forced into flying with the VC cockpit rather than my preferred 2D cockpit with the yoke removed so that I can see, and operate ALL the controls... Grin

...but the bleedin' yoke in the VC cockpit REALLY does get in the way of operating many of the controls which are behind the yoke... Cry

...and obviously there is no way of looking over the top or side of the yoke, as a real pilot would do!
(Don't mention the "IR" program... Wink

Pulling and pushing the yoke to try and gain access to the hidden controls only results in frenetic flight, terrifying the passengers... Shocked

A typical example is gaining access to the heading bug on the autopilot gauge dial....
...and the lighting switches, ignition switch, etc... Cry

There is nothing obvious in the Panel notepad file, so I assume that the animated yoke may be part of the original design of the whole aircraft, and cannot be altered by the user...?

...any ideas...?

You should be able to look over/around it using the 'move eyepoint' key commands.
Ctrl+Ent/Bkspc
Shft+Ent/Bkspc
Ctrl+Shft+Ent/Bkspc
Space bar to reset eyepoint.

Looking over the yoke in D18S....just like a real pilot Wink

...'trubble is, after fiddlin' about with all the various keyboard combinations and rotating my joystick hat to vary the viewpoint just prior to landing, and trying to see the position of my trim wheel and flaps, and whether my wheels are up or down, instead of glancing out of the window where I am going, I have just snapped off the nose-wheel and buried my propeller into the runway, and I am covered with the contents of the rear passengers sick-bags... Did some fiddlin' around and in the case of the D18 was able to make it's yoke invisible by editing the alpha channel, for the yoke's bmp, to black, 0,0,0.

The same could be done for the column. Fairly easy in this model as the yoke and column have their own .bmp's. Other ac might have the yoke/column textures within a larger texture plate.

A lot of the VC Cockpit appear to be contained in the "magic!" .cab file in the Panel Folder...

...But there is a .bmp picture of the 2 yokes in the Panel Folder....
Whether they are for the 2D or 3D panel, or both I dont know....

Worth a try, even tho' I've no idea how to alter them in PSP 4... Wink

What aircraft?, I'll could have a look.

I believe the proper .bmp for vc would be in the 'texture' folder.

Cessna and Pipers...
One of them, one which I have difficulty with in the VC cockpit, is their lovely Cessna 152...
...but now that I am being encouraged to use the 3D cockpit more often... Cry

You seem to be doing fine without my help but here's a couple of points. I suspect that CAB file in the Panel folder is a gauge, just like some of the default aircraft,. Unless the yoke is in the gauge (unlikely I would think) it's part of the DVC which is defined in the visual model so any textures will be in the Texture folder. You can edit the Alpha Channel in DXTBmp.

Unfortunately you've chosen a Payware aircraft as an example so I can't check it out for you.

Get Martin Wright's DXTBmp

It opens those funny lookin .bmp's. You then send the main bmp or the alpha to your PSP for editing.

Have d'loaded the c152 demo, will take a look at it.

Click on the yoke and it disappears....click on the hole and it reappears. Cheesy

It does work on the DVC yoke Paul. Well, it does on the Demo version anyway cos I just tried it. Why would they change it on the full version?

Dunno' unless you got an older version or sumptin'..

This show the clickable area in vc.

It also show the vc after I edited the alpha to remove the yoke (c152_c1.bmp). Needs to be cleaned up a little, but if this is your only option, it will work.

Delved into the JF Site a little while ago and spotted this as well....>>>

The registration had to be completed from within the e-mail first, and redirected to JF....
The Forum works OK now.
Downloaded the patch 12 Meg...took 3/4 hour...!!
Solved the yoke problem on the '152...
...not on the other planes, but they are OK anyway....
(An update is available for the others as well, for various odds and ends).
