CFS 4 did not take long then. Maybe I should go 3 hangers up the road and advise Aerosoft of the errors of their ways. From my computer I can see the office window concerned.

PS The F16 does look good though.

Whats this?

Combat capability in FSX? If so I can only think payware developers are getting some kind of advanced preferential favours which we, the sim community at large are not.

My understanding is that FSX is not a combat sim.

Therefore if Aerosoft are claiming combat capability with presumably missile lock in addition to cannon, then this suggests the sim core supports weapon profiling and effects. The official microsoft demo does NOT support these.

I wonder are we being hood-winked by microsoft, or are payware 'chancers' making false claims?

Besides which, I personally wouldn't pay money for an f16. Common as muck and not that good either.

REmember - FS-X supports certain missions and effects.

Even with FS-9 you can "simulate"   all sorts of combat effects, etc., and given the right programming, you can, arguably, simulate missle "lock", etc.

Whether this is "true" combat simulation  - as in the CFS series - remains to be seen.   It may be more a matter of "if x is near y, effect z happens."

This, of course, is my personal take on the matter.

You may be right Felix.

However, there were categoric statements to the effect that FSX was not a combat sim, if if turns out to be some kind of 'psuedo-combat' sim then your theory would hold up.

I guess we shall have to wait and see.

Although the more I look at the demo, the more I get put off the idea of buying.

No offence, but it is a bit too 'american' for my taste. I don't like the big band intro music either, I find it too invasive.

In addition, it has a crap flight engine just like it's predecessor. In-fact I reckon it's one and the same.

First? addon for FSX happens to be an f16, and they want money for it.

What's wrong with a MkI Spit or an Ef2000 typhoon?

well its true. It states that , if  a buddy has this same aircraft , you will be able to shoot them outa the sky. Also, its limited to dog fighting ( guns - and missle) ....so thoughs are some things to consider.

I see alot of doughbtful minds and just want to clear it up , that you WILL be able to shoot your buddys out of the sky, as long as there an aerosoft f16

Yah, sure, make it absolutely clear that our beloved Flight Simulator is undergoing a conversion (even if it is minor) into a combat sim. Cry

Well, I wouldn't mind an F-22 or F-14 having weapons as much as I would the F-16 (cuz i like the f-22 n' f-14).

I just wish they would put in carrier landings and thrust vectoring! Angry  Huh ACES?  Is that too much to ask??? Angry Angry

I'm sorry, breakin' down there a bit. Roll Eyes

Cheesy

Doesn't sound much like a 'combat' sim to me if the only people you can shoot down are all your buddies flying the same aircraft

I would have thought they'd have been on your own side .......... then again, I am a bit old fashioned like that  Roll Eyes

Just goes to show - takes all sorts and we're all different - I just read the stuff about the F18 'with the most amazing VC' that those guys were raving about and personally I found it all a big YAAAAAWWWWWWN  ???

But there ya go... I'll bet a few of you fast jet freaks are queuing up already with your $49.95 in your hot little hands eh  Wink

Well, not much.  I'm the type that drools over some payware thing, but doesn't actually buy it...

I stick to freeware.  However.  On occasion, I will consider buying something payware, provided that it is extremely high quality, and downloadable (cuz i don't like delivery much, unless its a full-fledged game/sim/etc.).

This could be that long awaited exception.
Too bad it isn't an f-14.  Or Su-47 (or S. 37) Berkut.

Guys, weapons in a "so-called" civilian sim is nothing new. Remember the first few versions of FS? A few of them [if I remember correctly] had weapons effects. In my opinion, Microsoft seems to just bring back what was once taken away from the FS series. Besides, I don't see anyone in the X-Plane forums complaining about X-Plane's weapon capabilities.

Anyways, given how addons have and always will be altering the course of the FS series, it was inevitable that weapons capability would one day come back to FS. And who is to say that FS will always remain strictly a civilian sim forever? Again, the addons are most likely the reason why we see weapons in FSX.

If that is the case I would have to agree.

However, I suspect that there is some kind of  FSX support for weapons damage and weapons, etc and it can be incorporated into any aproprate FSX aircraft.

All that was said is the FSX is not a combat sim. This is true out of the box but,  I suspect that  some combat  (dogfight) mods will be possible.
In fact, ACES has been somewhat vauge and advasive when asked about combat and FSX. Wink

From a marketing standpoint it could be a win-win situation: A dedicated civil sim for those who want it that also supports some combat via mods.

How about  "Battle of Britton" mod?
How about a Battle of Midway" mod uilizing the new improved carrior support?
Much can be done with just "dogfight"  support.
