My graphics card.  Since the release of the FSX Demo, my graphics card has gone from out-dated to utter ****. Cry

And my graphics card is taking its revenge on FSX!  I've put all the settings on the lowest possible.  And it still gives a smooth session of about 3-4 secs, then freezes for 3-4 secs, and keeps going in this loop. Angry

Someone, please tell me i'm not the only one with this issue! Angry

Dude, your gforce4mx card was outclassed by the ti range when it was new. Even for Fs2002 it was less than brilliant.

Actually, FS2002 worked with full settings on default aircraft, and in highly populated areas at a pretty good 30fps.  The only time it ever took long, was when I was trying out high-def aircraft/scenery, or anything else which was higher quality than FS2002 itself.  I could even have 2 screens going.  My monitor, and my TV!

You never missed the reflective textures on the aircraft then?

Hats off to you for still playing FS with an 8 mb card Shocked.

Your ram would also affect the frame rates., try getting a higher one.

Geforce 4 MX is 64MB or 128MB depending on the model.

New RAM? How about a new system? Is too slow for FSX even with a new card and RAM.

Wait...  Yes...  YYYYYEEEEEESSSS!!!!!!! Grin

I can play FSX with a okay-frame rate! All sliders and stuff are on 0, except every type of traffic (AI, AV, RT, ST, AT) are on 4%, and aircraft shadows are on.  It turns out that my graphics card settings were on quality the first time.  Now its on extreme performance (if you can call it that). In FS2002, I still got a decent frame rate with reflective textures. Wink

My model (sadly) is the 64mb model... Cry

I am gonna get a new PC once DX10 is release.  See details in my signature... Roll Eyes

Warning:  To all who have a GeForce 4 (or worse), if you like flying deHaviland Beavers, or Learjets in their VCs, then don't download FSX Demo.  Those VCs, don't have a windsheild (you can't see through them, because of the graphics card compatibility). Cry
If you like flying Ultralights and Baron 58s, then download it... Wink

My "other" computer's setup [it's a desktop]:

P4 2.8GHz
512MB RAM
Geforce 4 MX440 128MB

My "main" computer's setup [it's a laptop]:

P4 2.8GHz
512MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9700 64MB

The funny thing about my laptop is that it's more powerful than the other one. Of course, it's because my laptop's hardware is DX9-based compared to the DX8-based hardware of the other one. But it's still funny to see a "tiny" computer beat a "bug, hunking" tower PC. Grin

But then there is my "dad's" laptop. This one is made for business and DVDs compared to mine yet it beats the crud out of my laptop by 10FPS when tested with the FSX demo. I think it's because of the dual core 64bit processor that it has. Grin

Are you gonna get a new PC which is DX10 compatible just for FSX (and any other new versions)?

I'm not really sure a 2.8 GHz Pentium would be THAT slow for FSX. The main bottleneck there is the amount of memory and the graphic card. My guess is that an initial upgrade of those two elements would help a lot for the frames...a LOT !

Buy a tempoary graphics card.

6800XT or something that's slow, but supports DX9.

Str1ker sir - you are a legend today! You see, i'm utter crap when it comes to settings & what-not & for ages I have only been able to get decent frame rates in FS9 with decent weather - so I just checked my card settings & set them to performace instead of quality & hurrah!! I can now fly in all sorts of 'orrible weather with return of 20-30fps - which means landings are now possible without HUGE frame delays.

Big thanks,

TSC.

I can see where the confusion can creep in there, but that post was quite sincere, have a look here, these were posted yesterday.

I may still play around with the settings for a while to find a happy medium.

Cheers,

TSC.

Go into 'Start' -> 'Control Panel' -> 'Appearance & Themes' -> 'Display' -> 'Settings' -> 'Advanced'. Then have a look in there.

Thats where it is on my pc anyway.

Cheers,

TSC.
