I'll be honest: wait a little bit more, gather some money and wait for the DX10 hardware to come on the market. I think this is not wise to spend all your money into hardware NOW, because:
- this hardware will not be enough to run FSX at full options,(not to mention with addons etc...)
- this hardware will not offer DX10 functionalities, so you would have to upgrade again when FSX will be patched to DX10 if you would want to see the new effects.

My advise: carry on with FS9. Buy FSX and install it if you want, but you won't be able to run it at full options, you will have to lower the settings, visuals, AI etc... and in the end, you may not appreciate it as you should.

Eventually, to help you waiting, you could buy a second hand video card that would be more powerfull than your actual one... this would help your FS9, and may reduce the colleteral damage on FSX  Grin

But, as said above, you shoud first tell us what your actual rig is Wink

You can tell by now its not an extreme gaming rig with quad-SLI stuff...  But no one should worry, I've probably got the worst rig on this forum (but as my signature says, I'll be upgrading...).

Until both Vista and DX10 are out and well established on the market NO ONE will have a capable set up!!
Best to wait about 18 months after the release of Vista and DX10 to allow for some of the many thousands of bugs to be cured (remember M(qualcosa)s released XP with 33,000 known bugs!!!!!)

That's true BUT it will be the equivalent of FS9 with all the addons!
You won't ber able to run FSX at it's best until both Vista and DX10 are up and running. There is likely to be a big jump in performance and quality when they arrive. Until then  it's not worth spending huge sums of money on upgrades. until all the bugs are ironed out.

Yeah, but it will look way better than fs9 maxed out even on the lower settings.

I'm glad you have the money to be able to do FULL hardware upgrades every 6 months!!!
And in my opinion FSX on current set ups looks only "slightly" better than FS9.
Probably FS9 fully maxed will be in FSX the equivalent of being fully minimised!!!. So, almost everyone will have to have an upgrade in oder to run FSX smoothly even under XP and DX9.
