Hi to all,

I would like to set up cfs2 for the European theatre, but not quite sure how to go about it.
There are lots of good scenery to be had & I would like to take advantage of it.
Will this require a dedicated install of cfs2  ?
Any help & advice would be greatly appreciated !

No! you do not need a separarte install to do this. As mater of fact you can but it all in one install.

Its only necesary to have different installs if you like to place spash screens and specific Theater sceens in your install.

You can even take the Pacific Theater planes off from your viewing option when selecting planes. They still will count as a plane folder in the AC folder but they will not show up in your selection option when flying in quick mission or your Mission Builder.

You can start by upgrading your sceneries for your European Theater.

I have different install for different Theaters but thats not necessary. I like to start my missions with the appropiate screens. Thats the only reason.

Here are some suggestion for different installs.

1.Pacific Theater

2.Western Europe

3.Mediterranean Theater

4.Eastern Front

5.CBI

6.China

8.Alaska

9.Early war Pacific

10.Early war Europe

10.Japan

You can also get Nationality Screens for most of the Nations that particapated in the War.

Later when I have more time I will give my suggestion on  how to this.

My tips on how improve European sceneries.

Europe

I installed McClelland UK sceneries.

1.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2scenery3.htm

I added Ian Elliot London upgrade and Mathias CFS1 airbases o my European Theater.

2.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2scenery8.htm

Then I added the European Coast line to my install.

3.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2scenery11.htm

I also install the BOB selfinstall scenery by Gary Bums.

4.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2scenery13.htm

I also went downloaded Simouthouse Europe Mesh at their backup site.

5. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/master_ftp/cfs2/cfs2-scenery/

You can either install Sim-outhouse or Netwings sceneries Mesh. They both are of very good quality. Its up to you.

6.http://www.netwings.org/library/CFS2%5FScenery/

part two:http://www.netwings.org/library/CFS2%5FScenery/index-2.html

Last but not least I recommend you down load McClelland European Scenery for CFS2. Its a must if you really want to improve this program sceneries up to grade. With his sceneries you will not only have Cities and forest but also roads.

7.http://www.aer.ip3.co.uk/scenery.htm

You must install this European Texure upgrade. Its the best one in my humble opinion.

8.http://www.mlk-airbase.wz.cz/msfs/scenery/texture_swap.html

You get a cities upgrade right here in this Web. It will not make the cities look more real from 1000 feet and below but it make them look better from 1000Ft and above.

I hate CFS2 clouds. Thanks to our members there are some new clouds available as well. You can get the one from Sim-outhouse call Stiz Clouds or LW clouds. Its you choice. I have install them both in different install that I have. You also download a new Sun.

I forgot Stiz European Water. This is also a must.

9.http://www.sim-outhouse.com/index.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&a mp;FileType=cfs2-scenery&page=downloads&ammm=15&pap=2
Europe has neve looked so good in this program

        New

You can also add Seasonal Texutures at Avsim.
They are call cfs2hw.cfs2sp,cfs2su,scfswi,and cfs2fa.Look for them through the search engine at AvSim.Warning you will have to do it Manualy, but its real easy and lots of fun once you figure it out.

10http://www.avsim.com/

This are Genenral upgrades. There are more specific area upgrades that are also available for you pleasure.

I want to Thank this Website and the others like Netwings and Sim-ouhouse and all the Sceneries Developers and smaller Websites for Helping us enjoy this program with your talent. Without out your help this program would not have been the joy it is today.

James007

PS my next post on this subject will be on the Pacific Theater.

On to the Pacific Theater.

A seperate install helps to keep things more organized and it also means you can have more planes  Wink

As for Stiz assertion that different Install will keep keep thing more organize, I agree.  As the need for different install to able to have more planes is not totally true. You can have more than one Thousand plane in one install with the ACman utility from Itmwgfxs located in their CFS2 utility section. Check it out Stiz and CFS2 members. It works like a charm. You just need to remember that every new Hangar still needs the stock planes to enable CFS2 to function properly.

WOW!!

Thanks for all the good info !
I did download some new splash screens & I believe that a seperate install would be a good  thing.
If it isn't too complicated , do you just rename the two seperate installs & send a shortcut to the desk top ? That sounds too easy right ?
You're right James , I hate cfs2 clouds also , but thanks to stiz there's a remedy for that .
If there's an easy explanation to do this I sure would like to give it a try.
Thank's again for you're willingness to share your  expertice & to help an old guy out !
People like you make this a lot more than just a game on the computer !!

Many Thanks & Happy Flyin !

its not to hard at all  Smiley

1, Just rename your current CFS2 to anything of your choice and change the shortcut target path (if ya dont know if dont matter Smiley )

2, Install CFS2 again from the disks and just simple rename folder to what you want ie, CFS2 ETO etc

3, Just create new shortcuts (right click on the exe and the creat shortcut), you can do it to your previous install as well.

Done, now if you want to remove all the stock a/c then if becomes a bit harder  Smiley

Thank's Again stiz,

   Sounds easy enough.
When I get to the aircraft part  I 'll give you a  holler.
With my dandy dial up conn @ 26.4 , James has given me quite a list.
I may have a birthday or 2 before I get it all done, heh heh.
I love doing this, so it sounds like a good project.
Once again thanks to you both for your time & effort & also for the many downloads that just makes cfs2 better and better , I'm sure ther are MANY more than just myself that appreciate it.

                                             Thanks again guys !

James, I don't understand what you are talking about:

quote: "You just need to remember that every new Hangar still needs the stock planes to enable CFS2 to function properly."

I use ACMan in all of my installs and only the Pacific install has the stock planes.  None of my other installs use the stock planes and ACMan works just fine.  You certainly don't need to add the stock planes to every hanger you create.  That would be ridiculous.

CFS2 will function just fine without the stock planes installed as long as you know which files to modify to prevent the error message upon startup.

Coyote you are right. You do not need the stock planes. Its not rediculous but not necessary. You still will have 70 plus planes in every Hangar multiply by 18, that I believe will give you more than one thousand planes per install. You can also simulate those hypothetical arial dual that never really happen. Like a Corsair vs a Bf 109 or Fw190 vs a Zero. Perhaps a Yak9 vs a Hellcat. Those are very interesting  hypothetical duals if you ask me.

Thats one heck of a lot planes. This is what you can do to make those Pacific stock planes not needed in your European Install not to show up.

Go to My computer /Local disk C/Program files/Microsoft games/Combat flight Simulator2 folder. Look for a file call mdlnames.dat . Open it with notepad and look for the planes you want to neutralize by placing a coma or anything else in front of the plane you want out of your Hangar. Thats it.

I just forgot about this. You can also change the name of the Texures folder in the Ac folder you do not want to appear to something like Texure 2 or something similar. That should work as well. Remember many addon planes use stock planes sounds. You got to replace them with some other appropiate sound.

You can do the same with the folder call QUICKCOM. You need to change the order of the planes in quick combat setup.

Remember to back every thing up just in case.

Read this:http://forums.netwings.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5081

Thank you Coyote for pointing this out.

PS thank for your Tutorial on how to Build missions thru the Mission Builder.
