I noticed that they are using the term "game" to describe FS a little more often. Sad

Oh well. I can assume M$ couldn't compete well against Laminar Research's X-Plane. Roll Eyes

Katahu,

Yeah, I noticed that too.   Undecided Undecided Undecided   It was all over the place.  In fact, after the mention of the "Flight Simulator Franchise" in the beginning of the piece.... I don't think the word "simulation" appeared again anywhere in the document.

There were some good hints in there about SOME stuff that sounded promisiing.  But the focus seems a lot on the word "game" and "the gaming experience".

We can cross our fingers.

best,

I feal sorry for the new pilots who come into FS fealing it is just, "another game to beat." In reality it is SO much more, its a place were people (like us here) can get togeather and talk, have fun, learn new things about what intrests us in aviation, and so much more. We just need to be shure to get any newcomers into the habbit of saying Sim instead of game.  Wink

The use of "game" rather than "simulation" is quite intentional...and to our benefit.

MS is trying to stregthen the franchise by drawing in new blood. There are many who won't touch a simulation...they are afraid of the entire genre.

By opening things up to those folks MS is trying to show them that there is no reason to be afraid...except of the eventual insanity that overtakes all FS pilots. Smiley

If your so tired of us then why did you actually take the time to read the thread then post ??? Im tired of you people. The ones that complain on one of their first posts  Undecided
You really havn't been round here long enough to know people and make comments like that.... oh and welcome to the forums   Wink

On another note, sounds like fsx will be a real computer killer...moving cars animals updated scenery etc...quad sli time  ??? lol

SOme of the missions sound like they'll be making it a bit of a game but others will keep it  simulation like that congo relief mission they mention (will have to try that when fsx comes out) Grin

Hey guys, the quote kipman725 posted caught my eye as well.  I sure hope that they do work more on that stuff.  And, referring to the whole game thing, we obviously know that FSX isn't going to be WORSE than FS9.  I personally think I will enjoy some of the "games".  If you don't want them, don't play them.  I think they'll be fun.  Besides, the sim IS alot better.  We already know about a few great things (moving cars, boats, animals, 99,000 foot barrier being raised, etc.).  I think flight sim is doing a good job to put some "games" in.  They'll draw more buyers from that.

Anyway, there's my opinion. Grin

I'm confused. When it says Holiday 2006 as the release date what do they mean? That is a very badly worded article

Thanks for clearing that one up. Really though you would expect microsoft to make that more clear.

Guys, stop the game bickering.  The sim is clearly being made for 2 audiences: casual gamers wanting to just fly around with no real intention and serious simmers like us.  MS knows that many of the simmers will by it anyways, so they are trying to pull in a bigger audience by calling it a game in many instances and focusing on PREVIEWING the game aspects.  If youve been paying any attention youd see that many things they are working on are more simulation than game.  New failures, new ways to play (ATC, Pilot, Copilot), better MP (i know thats more 'game', but if its better we can fly with more people in a vatsim type of situation), new details around the world and new ways of displaying certain things.  Read the fact sheet:

Quote:
incredible graphics and added realism

New weather, more realistic environment

Quote:
With more than 50 new missions to choose from, aviators can build their skill levels and engage in even more stimulating gameplay than before. Players can choose to compete in the Red Bull air race or bring relief materiel to the Congo, keeping track of their progress on each mission.

Everyone keeps complaining about the missions.  But to me it seems like its a whole new way of playing the sim.  I dont know about you, but I think that delivering relief to the congo and being graded on it sounds fun.  It sounds like a sim, like, um, FSpassengers maybe?  Yes, some of these missions are gonna be game missions, but others are real life pilot activities that would give a reach realistic experience.

Quote:
Flight Simulator X will provide pilots with the ability to fly the aircraft of their dreams, from the DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver floatplane and Grumman G-21A Goose to the AirCreation 582SL Ultralight and Maule M7-260C Orion with wheels and skis. Players will be amazed at the details, such as shaded rivets, reflective paint, and glint from glass and chrome, as they view the world from 100 to 1 million feet.

New planes.  And these planes are very versatile, and the details on them are more of a sim feature.  Just imagine taking the beaver and goose in alaska, or flying the maule to a glacier.  Maybe even launching a space shuttle.  ITs a sim guys, not a game.

Quote:
Flight Simulator X offers players a connected world where they can choose whom they want to be, from an air-traffic controller, pilot, or co-pilot as they interact with other aviators from around the globe by chatting in real time via headset and keyboard.

This is the main reason why all the bickering is starting to tick me off.  A gamer is not going to know how to use these features.  This makes it a SIMULATION, to be able to actually speak with other players through the sim and be able to act as a pilot, copilot, or atc.  This brings a whole new area into the sim.  Imagine during online play being able to fly one plane together as pilot and copilot with other planes with pilots and copilots and air traffic controllers.  That makes the sim so much more of a sim than it is now.

Quote:
    * More than 24,000 airports feature artificial intelligence-controlled jetways, fuel trucks, and moving baggage carts, allowing players to explore their hometown or venture to a favorite far-off city.

Great details.  Now when you pull up to a gate it no longer is jus sit there, but you actually have airport servisces come to you and serve you.

Guys, its still early.  Remember that they want to make money, so of course they are going to advertise the fun stuff and make it seem like a game.

I doubt that many people here are going to buy it just cause it seems like a game.  You know what, thats your choice, go right ahead and stick with FS9 just cause you fear that FSX is a game.  But Im telling you now, and I will stick by it:  I am going to buy FSX when it comes out.  I dont give a damn if its a game, im still going to buy it because it looks impressive and it looks like FUN, and after all, dont we all play because we enjoy flying and find FS to be FUN?

Jakemaster, I love you. Smiley

Like Jake and others, I don't consider "Game" to be some kind of damning word. M$ wishes to make money, and to do that, they need to draw in new buyers. As far as simulators go, the gamer market is untapped for the most part, and M$ is only trying to reach out to a new audience.

Don't like flour bombs? Fine, don't play that mission then. There'll be more than enough "Sim" to balance out the "Game" parts of it. If I ever do buy FSX, I'll make sure to enjoy its new features, because like Jake said, I don't give a damn if it's a game, because it looks like FUN.
