...............get a keypress code to activate a gauge variable when the panel that the gauge is located ON is not actually currently displayed on the screen?

Need this to function sort of like pressing "G" for landing gear........ when any window view is actually being displayed.

best,

Apologies, Felix!

I've been working with John to put together an XML gauge for his BAe 146-200 simpit, which operates the APU. Where we are so far is that the gauge is activated by a keypress (or a switch in a more traditional cockpit) so that a spool-up and running whine are played and an effects exhaust plume is seen in exterior view coming from the APU exhaust port. The plume stops and the APU spools down when the key is pressed again.

The problem was that with the keystrokes I'd assigned, the gauge would only activate in 2D cockpit view (and no other view, not even the 2D view 'w'-cycle), which is apparently not all that much good for a simpit where you wouldn't have the cockpit visible.

After a little research, I've reassigned the keystrokes to a fixed key event, so that now it operates in any view. The event is the afterburner (Shift+F4) and since this is redundant in a BAe 146, this key sequence now fires up the APU.

There are a few more things to do with it, so once it's done, I'll upload it to the gauges section.

Wink

Sorry Felix,

I didn't want to "break the news" on Martyn since 99 percent of this is "his baby"........ or prematurely before it was plausible that it will ever work correctly.  This will be a very useful item for simpit builders when all is said and done.

I just (DOH!) figured out that the spool up / spool down sound file that I edited up does not need the artificaial "click" sound that I placed in it.  In a "virtual" cockpit.....gauges need this .....but in a simpit...... there is the "click" of the REAL switch.  What a dumb oversight on my part.  There are a few other "tweaks" still needed........ and Martyn has not let ALL the cats out of the bag on where this is supposed to be headed yet.  Wink

At some point we may need a separate files section for Homebuild Cockpits files  Wink.

best,
