One way of doing it is that your program should have a "soften" tool. With a reasonably wide "brush" go around the hard edges, repeating until you get a nice soft blend.

Which paint program do you use?
Most repainters fail realize (or don't acknowledge the fact) every paint program uses different names for varying functions.
If you're using the the same paint program as me, it's Select/Feather/3 before copying. The layers then can be move to meet with the blurred (feathered) edges.
The downside of this method is ALL edges are feathered but the edges extending beyond the models paintkit will not be rendered feathers (blurred)
P.S. Some repainters still maintain Photoshop has a Marquee tool when in fact its's a Polygonal Lasso tool (with three variations)

Okay - FS Repaint does not have a "soften" effect.
However, you can also set FS Repaint to send the texture to an external paint program, such as Paint Shop Pro, pixia, etc. where you can use that program's "power" tools and soften.
The default editor is nice for touchups, major texture alignments and dealing with the alpha channels, but not for image effects..

"fs repaint is the best thing i have"
Fair enough, I too have FSRepaint. As an aircraft texture and repaint viewer it can't be beat; it's worth $29 bucks just for this purpose.
As noted, it does have its limitations but is a great starter for wouldbe repainters. Fortunately for me, I've moved on to PhotoShop but still use FSRepaint for certain things; but then, I still use MS Paint for certain things.
I will still often open textures in FSRepaint but with my Default Editor set to PhotoShop, when I double-click the FSRepaint texture, it automatically opens in PhotoShop. This is a great feature of FSRepaint and it's their way of saying: "Hey, we know we're not the world's best Image Editing tool."
Good Luck with your project; if you want someone to do that part for you, post the image and the finished product can be sent back to you for completion
