Hi all,

Recently we've seen this new gauge for VTOL operations. I didn't tryed it yet, but from the video it seems that it uses some "slew" functions to get the aircraft hovering, right ? It's cool that it works, but it's not very good looking, at least on the videos.

So here is a question for all the gauge coders here.

Lots of us already tried setting the wind to 120 knots and making a vertical takeoff or landing Smiley So I was wondering if it would be possible to make a gauge that would constantly modify the wind speed and direction according to the aircraft direction and throttle? So that the aircraft would always face the wind, and thus hover in every possible direction.

This would allow a pretty clean VTOL don't you think ? If the gauge would activate the "wind-control" only with full flaps, it would allow the aircraft to act much more like the real stuff. It would also allow side-steps, reverse, and all that kind of horizontal moves.

But I really don't know anything about gauges, and I'm not even sure that the wind could be handled by a gauge. This simple idea came to my mind some days ago and I just would like to know what do you guys think of that. Smiley

Hmmmm . . . I don't THINK so, but then again I am not a gauge whiz, either.

From what I know of gauges, their influence on anything but the aircraft is very limited.  They can, with massive modification and tweaking, be set to activate things like flaps, gear and the smoke systems at certain speeds or other settings, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have much effect on the weather.  And I wouldn't want to mess with that anyway.  I could never get real world weather to work like that! Grin

Oh, well.  Just have to wait for M$ to get their act together.

Well, I'm almost sure that something can be done using FSIUPC or something...

The new gauge doesnt use slew operations.  IT is a masterful XML code that allows the plane to do what it should.  Ive been using it recently on the harrier, and it is AMAZING.  It flies just like a real harrier should.
