This page still has the installation software of Gmax v1.2.
If you don't have this version of the install utility, get it now while it still lasts and burn it to a cd, save it on a datastick, whatever way of backing it up. It might dissappear sooner or later.

There is was a crack that available for Gmax v1.2. I think I might have it. But first, I'll go Googling around to find it.
Update:
Well, I looked all around the internet through google, but I still can't find it. And to top things off, there are many websites out there [like the Neverwinter Nights 2 community] that have been greatly impacted by the sudden change of autodesk.
But I do have great news: I have the crack. However, I am not so sure if is ok for me to upload it to SimV [legal fears]. Is it ok for me upload it here, given the situation?

Well assuming that TurboSquid doesnt have it, and the application (gmax) is freeware, I dont see why it would have any legal vendettas connected to it

Hmm... you're right. The program is now a stand alone after all. And besides, Autodesk no longer supports it. So.... I'll ask Pete if it's ok with him to post this crack.

It's a weird situation, but just because a publisher is not supporting a program anymore does not mean it is made "freeware" and as such "abandonware". Autodesk retains the rights to the software and publishing "cracks" *may* or may not be tacitly allowed.

There was a registration tweak published on Discreet's own Gmax support forum. This was for people having problems registering Gmax or not on the Web. I don't think they would have left it there if there was anything wrong with it.

Hagar - thanks for spotting it.
The turbosquid post in the gmax installation issues forum clearly indicates that it's an "accepted workaround", so I would withdraw any reluctance.

So, in conclusion, are you saying it's ok to post it because it's an acceptable workaround?

PapaK (
); in the end it's Pete's decision - Upload it, it may be set up in the Design Utilities section.
