well, i did manage to export my little house into FS using BGLcomp Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

there is a catch though... some of the model parts only appear when in slew mode

check it out:

here is the house in slew mode:

...

and here it is in normal mode:

...

the missing parts still cast shadows, you can't see them in the screenies because i was using Active camera's walkaround mode... you'll just have to believe me Grin

anyone know why this is happenning?

the missing parts are the ones with no textures applied... is there any relation?

if so, is there a way to fix this without me having to aply textures to them?

thanks in advance

new developments:

i tried mapping textures onto one of the missing parts and it did work...

but i find it very weird that a part MUST have textures applied to appear... this doesn't happen in aircraft models

This IS weird, I went through my current scenery project and removed many of the part textures in favour of adding basic part colour instead, with the intention of reducing frame rates. Examples being plain concrete areas or single-colour items. This seems to have the desired effect (better frames) when flying in the sim, and all the parts still do appear OK...mind you I am using FSDSV2, if using GMAX maybe this is a unique issue? I would check to make sure the problematic parts haven't been checked off as having "transparent" properties, or even try copying the project/recompiling and see if that remedies the problem.

the model is too simple to have transparent parts...
actually the whole scene only has ONE material (the one with the textures)

at least now i know that i CAN have untextured parts in the scene...

anyways, here is the XML file for the model:

<FSData version="9.0" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd">
-
<SceneryObject lat="21 27.03" lon="17 3.00" alt="0" altitudeIsAgl="TRUE" pitch="0" bank="0" heading="340" imageComplexity="NORMAL">
<LibraryObject name="0E289DDD42C91160FB46CEB600FFB9F9" scale="1.0"/>
</SceneryObject>
<ModelData name="0E289DDD42C91160FB46CEB600FFB9F9" sourceFile="afw1.mdl"/>
</FSData>

this file was generated by the GMax export module...

i took the <sceneryobject> section from the BGLcomp SDK and modified it so it would place the mode in the correct spot

i then compiled it with BGLcomp and put the resulting BGL in my scenery folder

i really have no idea what could be causing this

If you go into FS display settings & disable "render to texture" all should work fine for testing. Everything needs a texture otherwise.

In Gmax if you just apply a gmax colour is should show up find and with metal work you probably do not need a textures just a colour.  I have used just colours on metalwork for my hangars.

Hope this helps

well i worked around the issue by mapping single-colored textures onto all of the parts... i drew some squares in my texture file and put all the parts on them...

didn't solve the problem, but made it go away Roll Eyes
