Hi All... Grin...!

I popped into my local game store today to see what's on offer.
A few new games.
Zillions of re-issues of old games.
..but..
no-one seemed to be buying anything, certainly not PC games... Cry...!

I can remember the time, long, long ago, (1980), when the world was full of excited 8-bit computer game enthusiasts, waiting to get their hands on the latest cassette game for the Sinclair Spectrum, Commodore 64, etc, etc...!!

Has the bottom dropped out of the market for PC games..?
Have they all gone over to X-Box, etc... Roll Eyes...?

Cheers all...!

Paul....(Sinclair Spectrum 48k enthusiast)... Wink... Grin...!

Let me give you an idea of how many games I've brought recently. Earlier this year I brought H&D2. Before that I brought Vietcong in 2003 and before that I brought CFS3 on it's release. Those are the last three games I brought. Tongue

"I got a million of em!" NO, really! Well, maybe not a million but I got enough of them to make the wife give me the EYE.

Don't just buy anything though. It has to catch my eye first. Then I will read some reviews on it. Check out the games forums and see what's being said.

Last few I have bought are Half Life 2, Far Cry and Silent Hunter III. Love all of them!

PC gaming is hot, otherwise there wouldn't be such a big market on the graphics cards and new....bigger and badder ones being released every few weeks. lol

I'm with fireman..... if it catches my eye I get it, I have 40 comp games on disk all over the place......  I have a PS2 but I personally think Games on Console after N64 absolutly suck.... there are a few games (like sports and racing) that do better on console, but pc is the absolute best out of em all in my opinion! Cheers, Gunny

I don't buy nearly as many PC games as I used to, I would rather play on the Xbox or PS2, PC games are great and the current consoles can't match the amount of content which can be included in a PC title, but over the years as PC games require more and more resources to run, I kind of get tired of trying to keep up with everything just to play a game, not to mention lock-ups and compatibility issues between the software and hardware, basically in my opinion modern PC gaming although very cool at times, has become more of a pain in the ass than ever, so that is why I pretty much stick to gaming on my consoles these days.

I've actually considered getting into console games for the same reasons Paz has.  It won't be long before my 2.0 with a gig of RAM is completely incapable to do anything other than spreadsheets.  lol

I rarely buy games, but I play a lot of demos that come with magazines (if they work). Found myself drawn to the bargain bin the other day and picked up the Atari classics collection for $10. That was money well-spent... Asteroids and Battle Zone!! Woohoo!!
Also got Age of Empires... slow-moving but interesting game.
Other than flight sims, I don't play much else except Ground Control 2 (not sure why, but I'm obsessed with it) and Hitman 2. I'll leave 'em be for a while, then try my hand at improving my previous scores.

Hi Rotty...!

Have you tried the many 8-bit computer game emulators available on the PC... Wink...!

The sound and graphics are often superior to the genuine computers/consoles... 8)...!

I use the "Spectaculator" emulator to play all my old Sinclair Spectrum* computer games....  Grin...!
"Genie" plays all the old console games...!

Do a search for EMULATORS... 8)...!

Cheers...!

Paul.

I assure you, the PC genre is FAAAAAR from extinction.  I know that's not what anyone was implying, but I'm just sayin.  I am an avid PC gamer that picks up about every new title, and they will always be superior to their console counterparts Smiley

Don't be so sure, the next generation of consoles are supposed to have more processing and graphics power than most any PC available today, the Xbox 360 (or whatever they will call it) is supposed to be out by the end of the year.
I do agree that there are certain games that will probably not make a good transition to consoles at this point, but everyone must keep in mind that as consoles evolve, they are becoming closer and closer to being nothing less than powerful PC's you connect to your television.

The PS3 and XBox 360 will be top notch for about a year, before the PCs are on par again.
Hopefully, the PS3 will bring a fresh wind into the currently lame PC hardware market.

Definitely, Believe it or not, the PS3 and the xbox 360 are more powerful than high-end computers. I can say without a doubt that the ps3 could out benchmark many of intel PC's with intel EE 3.73 ghz and x850 xt pe's in terms of gfx abilties. But thats about it. A ps3 would run a program like adobe premiere like crap.

I am surprised at the new x-box, not only is it ugly but it really doesnt match the PS3 that well. But then again while consoles mean i can play games without too much if any slowdown i will continue to buy those over PC games.
