Everlasting argument between me and the singer in a band thats been on and off for the last three years, so is it Slash infront of the church or Kurt's melody line "solo"?

I do enjoy solos but I think if it goes on more than a 2 minutes we got a problem. There is a point between skill and endless widdly widdly stuff.

Dream Theater take note lol.

The only time I mind long solos is when they go on for upwards of 20 minutes at concerts!  You want to do a little 10 minutes didly, fine, just keep it interesting.  But don't drag it out that long.  As for solos in songs, I'd say 5 minutes is max for me.

dunno I found Brian May's 15 min egofest quite annoying which is a shame since he's usually such a fine guitarist in the songs.

it depends on the setting and the attitude/talent of the guitarist

Solos can be a very important part of a song if they are structured properly, it takes a very talented guitarist to keep twenty minutes of weedle-doo's and wee-wee's interesting, Frank Zappa was pretty good at this, he could improvise a twenty minute solo and make it sound like a song in itself.

1min max,
otherwise it recks the tune of the song..

IMO, the best songs always have a short solo.. example: Rammstein - Du Riechst So Gut  (imo  Roll Eyes)

i enjoi guitar solos as long as they sound good and the person dosent suck at playing.

Kerry King from Slayer, yeah he F'in sucks, i hate that guy, and i hate slayer. Rain in Blood is the only songs that i somewhat like up until the point where King comes in with his crappy solos, he is a tool bag and if he never makes music again i will be a happy person.
