try 1 gig of ram...... (More then that is basically no benifit or very little) I may be wrong.... and if you have a GPU like that, Full settings and set unlimated frames.....  What do you do? Gaming? Movie editing? etc... that also helps too.... I am not the best on a computer but I know enough to know somewhat what to get and what not to get.... You guys can correct me if I'm wrong! Cheers, Gunny

Congrats dude. wether you order  or build a new computer is alawaies worth it. Also cut back to only 1G of ram and get a faster processer, or a bigger hard drive. You really dont need 2G unless your doing video editing, or playing Doom 3 maxed out, online, usuing Team speek, playing music, and watching a movie on your second monitor. infact I get away with doing this with my 1G (but faster processer) with no lag. so think about what is more important, being able to say "i have more RAM than you" or "i have a faster processer /  better video card than you"

and who are you buying from? i suggest atleast looking at www.ibuypower.com before going to dell or HP. Best yet just build yourself, but if your not sure you can IBP gives you the look and feel of self built without actually building it. they are also about $150+ less expensive than a mainstreem builder.

also AP (getting a little off topic) why did you waste money on SLI (disregard if you do video editing / high level graphics rendering) Personally I would have wated until ATi came out with the X800 in SLI insted of spending 1000$+ for the two 6800's also how mich lag do you get with that four G of RAM I know that you have a 15000RPM  HDD but even still you should be expirencing (<spelled wrong) some data lag in the transfer

Must be killer editing lol Cheers, Gunny

PS: When you get a computer that can do anything you want (or almost) You'll start doing a lot more, its an addiction that never stops..... I went from celeron to celeron for 6 months then finally my mom stopped renting and had one bought...... (POS to be truthful) Then I blew it straight up (Facial hair rubbed on ram and ZAP) 6 months later without a comp, I get this computer, I was getting every game I could! It seems common that people do that, Cheers, Hope this helps!

Someone's jealous.

I do do video editing and I do do crazy stuff with game engines (like making maps for the doom 3 engine...outdoor areas, 8 npc's and 20 light entities do not make a good mix).

In fact, I am waiting for AMR or ATI Multi-rendering, the correct name for ATI's "SLI".  However, that is not out yet (or close to completion), so I will get whats available and that happens to be SLI from nvidia.

BTW, for video editing, dx9 cards are not the solution (i.e. x850 or 6800). what you need is an openGL accelerated card commonly called a workstation gfx card (like the firegl or quadro or realizm). I don't like ati opengl cards (firegl). I prefer the quadro 4400 from nvidia. Great rendering speeds and quality. In terms of software, I use XSI 4.2 for most rendering jobs with a little adobe after effects for movie effects. My favorite gfx card is the 3dlabs Realizm 800. it rapes rendering engines (you should see it with maya 6 with fluid simulation).

as for lag in my current computer, yes, I'm sure there is lag omewhere in there. The overall performence of the computer more than makes up for it. Plus, the RAM itself is pretty low latency.

On a side note AP "wasted" money on SLI because he can say "My comps better than yours" and he can; that is most computer addicts dream. Grin

Nice.

However:
There's no such thing as a LCD plasma screen. LOL. Its either plasma or LCD. I think you mean LCD cause plasmas don't come in that small of a size and LCD are the norm for computers.

For sound, you can use the onboard mobo sound. Your intel chipset should support basic srround sound which should be enough for you. If you really want good sound, you'll have dish out for an audigy 2 and some good 5.1 surround sound speakers. Get the audigy 4 only if your really into sound (its not worth it otherwise).

just get a decent motherboard, and use the built in sound. Sound cards havent made any leaps and bounds in the past few years, so my intagraded 7.1 card does the job very well, and even has the functions, and preformance of CreativeLabs etc.
