i have a HP dvd writer 300c wich will not recognize blank dvd/r discs it just stoped the other day, it still reads dvds and dvd -roms and writes to blank cd's, tried everything,drivers,defrag,you name it . please does someone have a suggestion? thanking everyone in advance

Ahhhhhh the XP RW bug strikes again..... Try searching the Microsoft knowlege base. I'm almost certain that's where I found the fix.

This is not a problem with HP or windows.
You say it does not recognize DVD-R, but will read DVD-ROMs and can write to CD. That means nothing is wrong with the writer and windows and the drivers.
Your burner may be a DVD+R burner only meaning it won't recognize DVD-R. Check your media.
Tell what formats your DVD burner supports and what media you are trying to write to.
