I've been having problems lately with my DVD+RW ... it wasn't reading come discs and was unable to write to others. The problem was fairly inconsistent and therefore unpredictable, it would read a disc one minute and not the next, it would write to a disc then not read from it etc, etc, etc.
After a few days trying different bits and bobs, yesterday I bit the bullet and emailed Dell. FOOL!! I hear you all shouting. You won't hear anything for weeks!!! Well to be quite honest I didn't think I would either. So to my suprise when I opened my Inbox this morning there was a reply. With several useful suggestions, including the ones I had already tried but several more that I didnt even know about. Links to the relevent Knowledge base articles were included, so no need to go searching.
The upshot is that after a bit of bios/registry tweeking and a bit of uninstalling/reinstalling ..... everything seems to be working. I'll give it a bit of time before I will commit to it working 100% .... but hey ho thats computers for you.
cheers
A happy with Dell email support puppy

Nice to hear something positive. Obviously Dell have got over the tricky "customer what?" stage.
Glad to hear all is well now Eno
So when can you run off those Swedish movies for me?

All I can say about Dell is that right now I like mine.
It is the first computer I have owned and I had many problems in the beggining. Upgrade various parts and now it is running good.
What I can say is that I will never buy another! Reason being is that now that I'm no longer a computer virgin I realize that for the amount of money I put into this one I could have built a two computers that are better.
I was shocked to learn that even though this computer is all but two years old many parts inside were at least 8-10 years old. I find selling a "new" computer with outdated hardware is a rip off and wrong. But however if I had a choice of Dell or Emachines, the Dell is the one
But because of the many friends here, and mainly Congo I have seen my errors and learned from them. I now know what it is I really want a machine to do and am getting ready to build my own. And trust me if I would have found this place and did more homework I probably would have never bought a pre-built system!
I can honestly say that I have learned more from the people here than listening to the "computer experts" at the local store. This is what big computer corporations need to do is hire the casual computer geek for customer service, not people who are "trained", it is the geek that can solve problems, the "trained" are only capable of reading from a instruction manual, or the same pop up help menu available on your very own computer
