Hi all!!

Well, I finally did it. After years with Microsoft's IE, I heard about Mozilla's new Web Browser, Firefox. After reading much about it I decided to give it a try. WOW!!

I tell you, this thing works great. My pages load up faster then ever before, built in Pop Up blocker works like a charm. The browser is full of features that I am just getting to know, but love what I see.

Adding extensions, plugins is a breeze and there are many good ones available.

There is a great new Email client called Thunderbird. I got it too and I am just as pleased with it as I am with Firefox.

I am not affiliated with Mozilla, Firefox or Thunderbird. This is just some info that I wanted to pass along to my fellow Flight Simmers.

You can get the IE extension and if you run acrossed a web site that doesn't support Firefox (I haven't run across one yet) then you just select to view with IE and OILLA!!

Link for Firefox if you care to read up on it and/or download it: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Been using Firefox/Firebird for about a year now. Didn't regret kicking my IE's arse.

Well, was having problems with Thunderbird (the email client).. Seemed to be a password problem that I couldn't get straightened out. Removed it and wait for a later release.

But Firefox is great. I have downloaded many of the extensions and really love those too. Very functional.

And to think that this is supposedly the PREVIEW RELEASE!!

I like the fact that it is open source, your free to do what you want, add what you'll use etc.

What exactly was Microsoft smoking when they designed Internet Explorer? ActiveX controls everywhere,"This Page cannot be displayed",blah, blah, blah. QUIT COMPLAINING
and download Firefox already,o.k.?
(In short,I love you,my wonderful Firefox...you are the most beautiful browser of them all..) ...o.k.,o.k., It's only a browser, but Firefox is truly a obsession-worthy piece of software.

I suppose I'm one of the few who uses IE here then?
I tried Netscape Navigator, went back to IE
Tried Opera - reverted to IE after 2 weeks
I tried Firefox - again went back to IE.

But... I'm not picky about things and explorer has performed flawlessly when called upon, so why fix it if it aint broken?
Just modify the settings and you will have NO PROBLEMS with active X protocols btw....
I've been designing webpages for 4½  years now and IE is still the standard, but it looks like FF is the new kid on the block Smiley

Yep! FF beats the pants off IE any day.  I've been using FF since its .5 version.  I'm currently using 9.3 though, I'm holding off on 1.0 until it's final,  and until all my extentions and stuff are updated to the new standard.

Speaking of extentions,  Mouse Gestures (MozGest) and Sage (RSS and ATOM reader) are THE extentions to have.  Other notables include CompactMenu and BugMeNot.

Edit: FF also stops the nasties in their tracks, unlike IE (I'm not sure about the new addons that came with SP2, but I can't bring myself to start IE anytime soon).

Yeah. Firefox seems to have some problems with a few webpages, but methinks they'll have it fixed sooner or later.

Hi Lads...!

I've just installed Firefox, and I do find that it is very much slower, and jerkier, to download sites and open pages than it is with IE*.... Cry...!

I also notice problems with trying to edit this text.eg:...
smiles can only be inserted during composing the text, they cannot be inserted after the text is conpleted...they only appear at the end of the text...
(The same thing happens on the LAGO Forum text boxes using when using IE)..!

...also...

Can anyone advise me how to make the Firefox main page automatically default to my ISP site, (Wanadoo/Freeserve) , instead of the "Mozilla" page...?

This is going to take a lot of getting used to... Roll Eyes....!

Cheers all...!

Paul.

* ..actually, I've just figured out why this is...
In IE, the page is not displayed until ALL the data has been downloaded...
But in Firefox, the data, (text, pictures, etc), is displayed, bit by bit, as it is being downloaded...!
..so it "appears" to be slow, and jerky... Wink...!

Hi Paul. I tried Firefox when I started having unexplained problems on some sites with IE. I don't use it for visiting this forum for the reasons you mentioned.

Go to Firefox/Tools/Options/General & paste the URL to your home page in the box. You'll soon get used to it.

I think there's an option not to load images. This speeds it up considerably.

Hi Doug...!
Many thanks for the reply... Grin...!
...and the tips...!

I agree, Firefox does have a very strange text editor... Cry..!
So, I think I will do as you suggested, and use IE for typing text messages on the Forum.. Wink...!
..all my "smilies" really have to go in the correct places... Grin...!
LOL...!

Cheers Doug...!

Paul.

I use FF for all but a literal handful of sites that don't support it.  SimV does very well here with Moz.
