Can anyone know where on the NET i can find a copy of it

I think you have to buy it ???

I don't think 6.0 is the latest version, so you may be able to pick it up a reasonable price.

Gauges are dynamic link libraries (dll) written in C.  The tutorial you've got is aimed at someone using the C compiler in Microsoft's Visual Studio 6 (VS6) - not Visual Basic.

Although it is possible to write dlls in VB I don't think such an approach would work well for a gauge.

Stratobot is right when he says that VS6 is not the latest version but .NET is such a large departure from VS6 that it might be better to go with version 6 if you want a gauge that works well with fs9.

If you use .NET you have to make a choice.  Either write the gauge as what is now called "unmanaged" code or write it as pure .NET managed code.

The first choice is pretty much the same as writing it with VC6 and the second choice means everyone using your gauge has to install the .NET Framework runtime package at 22MB.  This might be a problem for PCs more than a year or two old.

And by the way, none of this is free.

There are any number of places where you can purchase Visual Basic 6 or Visual Basic.NET.

If you're just interested in programming in general and not something that specifically plugs into FS9 there are any number of free languages - java, perl, python, ruby, and on and on and on.

There are also free C compilers that might be able to produce gauge files.  I'm not very familiar with any of them, though.  The only freeware C compiler I've used is the GNU compiler that comes with linux.

I wonder... Is there a way to get that to work in Windows?

Funny you should ask.  There is a freeware package called cygwin that lets you run a lot of linux software, including the gnu gcc compiler, on windows.

I just now took a minute to go look for free c compilers for windows and found www.willus.com. ; Never seen it before but there's a link on the left for Win32 C/C++ Compilers.  If you follow the link there's even a listing for a free Microsoft compiler.  I haven't spent more than a couple of minutes on the sight but it looks like a place to start.
