Hi Lads and Lasses...!
Saturday/Sunday, August 21/22 2004
My local airfield...or aerodrome, as we English affectionately call them...LOL...!

A few pics of the Shobdon, (EGBS), handicap air race, organised by the Royal Aero Club Records, Racing, and Rally Association.
This particular event was for the Grosvenor Trophy, held annually at Shobdon.
A fantastic week-end, with lots of enthusiastic families attending...!
Lots of tea, ice cream, cool drinks and FAB meals at the FBO restaurant!
...and a Bar-B-Q....yummy...!
Good weather, lots of clouds at 2000+feet, and a strong southerly wind for a bit of fun.

One of my favourites...The outrageous Cessna 337 push-pull aircraft, together with a Bulldog showing it's teeth!

...

Another very nice bulldog...You can gauge the excitement of the race by the chewing of the fence...!

...

and a seriously fast SIA Marchetti SF 260 in camouflage colours flown by Geofrey Boot and his lady wife...

...

Racing for the finish line...Lots of cheering and waving...!

...

The winner....One of Mr. Van's seriously fast babies...a Vans RV7...!

...

And the Presentation at the end of the race. Lots of shining silver, smiling faces, and hand clapping...!

...

I took loads of photo's but, as always, the thread limits us to a few of the best...!

Another of my favourites attending for the race was a nice Yak 52, which unfortunately suffered a bird strike on Saturday resulting in some wing damage to the spars, so had to limp carefully back home, missing the race....higher insurance premiums next year...Buggar...!

The results...!

1) Vans RV7.
2) Beech Baron twin.
3) Cessna 337F.
4) TB20.
5) Bulldog.
6) Grumman AG5B
7) Bulldog.
8 ) Bulldog.
9) Mooney M203E
10) Rallye 8924.
11) Beech F33C Bonanza.
12) Siai Marchetti SF 260.
13) Pup 150.
14) Piper PA30.

Gives you some idea what to go for if you want to win an air race...!

Cheers All...!

Paul.

P.S.  Oh, and sorry, I couldn't help including a pic of everyone's favourite panel: The Cessna 152 Aerobat...!
My favourite position is in  the left-hand seat...!

Looks like it was a fun day inspite of being rather overcast.

Nice one Foz. Glad you had a good time. Wink

Those clouds look a tad threatening. Hope you didn't get wet.

Hi All...!
Many thanks for the replies...!
It was a fantastic week-end...!
Saturday was a glorious, blue sky, sunny day.
Sunday was a bit overcast, which is a bit easier on the eyes when looking up at the sky for hours... Wink....!
But the rain kept off for both days, so our local club had a good financial income from the visitors, which always helps to keep the aerodrome going for all us enthusiasts... 8)...!
Looking forward to next years events... Grin...!

Cheers all... Grin...!

Paul.
