.....Korea.
The Korean War was a fierce, frustrating conflict, that ended with no victor. The shaky truce that ended the fighting on July 27th 1953 has lasted for more than 50 years, yet the front lines still remain much as they were when the fighting ceased so long ago.
The war in the skies over the tiny penninsula was long and costly, a fact often overlooked. It was far more complex than just a duel between the fabled F-86 Sabres and Mig-15's, as so often portrayed. It would represent a time when jet aircraft would fly off of aircraft carriers into battle for the first time. While the stage was set for modern air combat, old war horses would carry the burden for the majority of the war. Douglas B-26 Invaders hunting for trucks and tanks at low altitude; F4U Corsairs, made famous in the war against Japan a decade before; and P-51 Mustangs so common over the skies of Germany but now flying under a new designation of F-51.
In sharp contrast the North Koreans fielded old technology, Polikarpov Po-2 biplanes, designed in the 1920's on night raids known as Bed Check Charlie. Against this threat the USAF pitted there most modern interceptor, the F-94B. Over Mig Alley Chinese and Soviet Mig-15's tore through formations of inferior UN aircraft, particularly the Boeing B-29 Superfortress. Demonstrating to the world how vulnerable these planes were, despite the effectiveness they displayeed barely 5 years before.
Despite the evolutionary crossroad in air combat marked by the Korean War, very little is known by most people. Truely a "Forgotten War" the exploits of the brave men who fought and died over the mud and muck of a foriegn land should never be forgotten.
It was in an effort to remember these men, to try and teach others what happened that the Dogpatch Crew took on this project. It is these men, and those who never came home, on all sides, that we dedicate our work. So that the Korean War - their war - should not be forgotten.
Now you can relive their sacrifice, in a small way, with the Korean Theater Construction Set for CFS3, available for download from the Korean Skies website.

Looks very nice, but is it ever going to be posted in more than one file? No one with dial-up can download something that's 84MB!!

Sorry but there is no way it can be uploaded in multiple files, due to the way it is constructed. Everything has to be done in a certain order, or it will not work at all. We found that installing new scenery is very difficult to do, and an auto installer is the only rela option to prevent problems.
We will be startig up a CD Swap, similar to the swap organized similar to those used for the Kursk and Crimea campaigns for CFS2. But that will come a bit later as we want to get a few more things squared away. We still consider this to be a Beta due to alot of missing information in the Scenery SDK's. We will be releaseing samller updates from time to time. as well as updating the installer.
I'll make another anouncement when the CD Swap is ready to go. (and I know what it is like to download this on a 56K modem, I have done it at least 6 times already. Good news is you should be able to resume your download as long as you do not shut down your computer.

wwatkins, get yourself a download manager such as DAB, allows you to get it in smaller chunks.

Downloading it now. I've been looking forward to this addon.
I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday.

It's awesome! I love the Korean War stuff, been using all the Korean War add-ons for CFS1 and CFS2...now we've got CFS3! Nice, the way it makes a whole separate simulator. Downloaded it this second I saw that it was available:) Thanks for the great work!!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and support.
We just released a small update for it. This update fixes missing textures on some islands that are scattered around the pennisula. It also contains missing texture files for the AI only Panther and the correct sound files for the Sabre guns. Don't worry though it is quite small, at just 576KB. It's in the base ops section of our site. You may need to refresh to see the link though.
