Can someone tell me which file (and what part of the file) I have to adjust to allow a plane to get closer to another without colliding.

I have a Bf109 that explodes (collides) when I get within 50 ft of another plane. I want to get closer than that! It's hard in a dogfight to stay that far away from planes!

Thanks Grin Wink Cheesy

Hi Brensec. It's been a while since I messed with this stuff. You might like to try Tcdfsview. http://www.simviation.com/fs2000utilities_ess2.htm

In my day this handy little utility was the "magic fix" for the "collision bubble" on early 3rd party aircraft for CFS2. It might not work or be necessary on the later FSDS2 or Gmax designs. To use it - open the MDL file of the aircraft you want to patch & set the Zoom value so it appears about the right size in the Free Flight preview window. As a very rough guide try single-engined fighters at Zoom 7 & bigger aircraft at 9 or 10.

PS. Some CFS2 aircraft (most of Andrew Wai's) come ready Tcdfsview patched.

PPS. There was a different fix for the default aircraft.

Yeah; in the file CFS2.cfg in your main CFS2 folder; scroll down until you see the entry: COLLISION_SECS=?? It'll be in the [Multiplayer] section; but don't let that fool you; it seems to work in single player too; at least in my experience. Anyhoo; change the number represented here by '??' from whatever it is to -5.
Works great - Couple of years back I was CO of an online precision flight squad (431 TAC/AD). We flew regularly in formation with 15 ft. on the counter. Wink

Thanks for the advice boys. (G'day Hagar. I'm still around just been a bit busy. i be back a little more regularly soon - I hope)  Cheesy Wink

I'll gibe these ideas a go. I don't understand though, why is it only occurring with one aircraft, if the fix is related to the 'universal' CFS2 cofig file??

Thanks  Grin

Hi Brensec. Good to see you're still around. Wink

I suspect the problem is with a 3rd party aircraft. I think the CFG tweak is basically for the defaults. All 3rd party aircraft are different as you will discover when you check out that Tcdfsview utility.

I found the similar utility for the default aircraft I mentioned. mdledit_V1-1a here. http://members.optusnet.com.au/raafgames/CFS2_downloads.htm
From what I can make out this should do what you want without the CFG tweak.

PS. I copied this from mdledit_V1-1a Readme.txt.
Quote:
Inflight collisions will be reduced, if not eliminated.
There is now no need to amend collision settings in cfs2.cfg from the default of 2 if flying the aircraft modified by mdledit.

mdledit edits the collision bubble of the model (mdl) files of the listed CFS2 aircraft, allowing them to get closer before colliding.  You can choose the size of the bubble.
