i'm having a hard time doing animations that need mirroring... Tongue

i can't just hit the mirror button (causes that famous lighting problem) nor can i use the parametric mirror modifier, since it mirrors only the part and not the keyframes...

what i've been doing so far is to take notes of the values for rotation and position everytime i make a keyframe, so i can manually repilicate the movement on the other side...

is there a simpler way to do this that i don't know of?

This happened to me a couple of months ago. This is the remedy that Eric Cantu gave me over at FreeFlightDesign Forum (page 12 in the FFDS Design Forum).....

"GMax or FSDS2?

In GMax, as far as I know there are no easy answers. Any translational movement that differs between left and right (like movement to the left or right if it retracts inwards and not, say, forwards) will have to be redone, but tht's relatively simple.

First off, copy it piece by piece. Copying the whole assembly will just be more trouvle than it's worth.

When you copy a piece, first rotate the pivot around the red axis 180 degrees. This will reverse the rotation animations. Then fix the translational animations (manually).

It's not that hard once you do it a lot. Make sure to do the axis rotation at frame zero..."

And I'm happy to say that it works...Rick

thanx for the help guys, but i managed to do it by myself.

and i devised a simple way to mirroring any animation

the idea is not to mirror an already animated part. it is to do both animations at once

here's how i do it:

to start, i animate the first keyframe of the left part normally.

to match the translation, i align the second part to it. (up/down, fore/aft axis only)

then i open the rotate type-in thingy (right click on the rotate button on the toolbar) and select the left part. i take the absolute rotation values and copy them to the right part. (i have to add a minus (-) in front of some of the values so the rotation is mirrored, not copied.)

now the right part is in the EXACT same position as the left one. i just keep repeating this procedure for all the keyframes

remember that for this to work, both parts must have their pivot points centered, or at least equal to the other.

it's not as simple as just clicking the mirror button but i think it's the next best thing Cheesy

c ya

Dont know if this help  Wink

but i have find that if whe mirror heach part (not whit the modifier parametric deformer mirror ) of the objet whit the copy box option checked   (insted of cloned and mirrored the thing !) its work very good whit no poly trouble  Smiley !

i have just to reverse the animation of heach part after (changing the position number in the animation sequence)

There is a 100pixle wide, and 10kb large, size limits on Avatars.&&&&Thank you for doing your part to make this a better place for all who visit by observing these guidelines. Smiley
