Are there any instructions on how to use CFS1's built-in scenery editor? Yeah, I could probably figure it out eventually but something in writing would help. Thanks!

Jim. The only instructions I've ever seen are in the tute describing how to activate it. It's mainly a matter of selecting an object, positioning it visually & saving it. The utility is a tad buggy & liable to crash when used which is most likely the reason it was deactivated in the first place. I find that Chuck Dome's Static Object Designer (stacfs12.zip) is far easier to use although it does not have the WYSIWYG graphical interface with CFS.

Mr Clarke,
please
don't use that old ed! I went all through this myself when designing Dale airfield (if you haven't d/l it, maybe you should!). I used the default ed. through out, and regreted it afterwards. Use FSSC, it is worth learning on, and it can do much much much much much more!

The stock CFS Scenery editor does have limitations but for simple scenery design and add on (buildings ,trees etc) its easy and quick. You can knock out a decent scenery in an hour.I like to use Airport 2.60 to build scenery and then will add some small sections with cfs scenery editor.Just remember to NOT use the cfs editor in full screen. It will make it impossible to use.Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help! I tried the Static Object Designer that Hagar suggested and I've had really good luck with it!
Thanks again!

Be careful Jim-
the scenery editor is eeeeevil.
It may eat up your computer.
Hey, does anyone know why some of the files I have dowloaded aren't appearing in my a/c list even though they are installed correctly?

Bezz old chap. I've pointed you to the appropriate tutes in other threads. If you still have problems installing aircraft give me examples & tell me where to download them. I need page numbers & file names. A link to the page would be even better. Providing they're posted on this site (Simviation) I'll be happy to download them & check them out for you. Not only that but I'll walk you through installing them.
You won't get a better offer than that anywhere.

Thanks guys,
I'm..I'm fine...it's just that the warning seems so ominous.
Just a question,
With that aircraft designing bit, is it possible to illustrate the basic lines of the aircraft and scan them in or do you need computer mumbo jumbo...?

Hi Bezz. Personally, I always found designing aircraft for CFS1 difficult & frustrating. The only practical design application is Aircraft Factory 99* which has no backdrop feature like FSDS2 & Gmax used for the later M$ sims. This means that you cannot import even a simple 3-view to give you a guide to the size or shape of the model. Most things are done by number-crunching. One well-known designer used to manually trace a drawing & attach this to his monitor with sticky tape to give him a guide. I always admired the designers who could create such accurate & beautiful 3D models using these primitive methods.
*PS. I'm not sure this is still available.

Hi
Yeargh!
I always (incorrectly) hoped that aircraft design WOULDN'T be about numbers.
Argh, So, is it just a case of plugging in numbers....

This is the tute I used when I started out.
http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/mikehill/design.htm
It will give you some idea of what's involved although Andrea Cini's Tools were not released in my time. AF99 is simply an updated version of Flight Shop.
