I have FS2004 and had a XFXGforce 2 - 64mb card and when I used high settings to low I would get this short stop in motion of my A/C.  It happened about every 3 seconds.  My frame rate would drop a little and then resume around 20.  After reading a lot I decided to go with a PNY Gforce 5700 Ultra 128mb card 475/900 (Effective) speed.  I did the same ranges as before and the same is happening.  The only change I notice is the weather is awsome in high mode.  I still get the pause in the low modes.  Any suggestions?

First thing I thought was not enough memory, but you have 1024mb, so that's not it.

Then I thought maybe your virtual memory settings, (pagefile), were messed up.

Check your BIOS setup and make your graphics window or aperature at least 256mb. Make sure you are using the 8x AGP setting. Make sure any onboard video chip is turned off and the primary display is set for your addon AGP card.

Check the video driver settings.

Maybe you need to install your motherboard AGP driver again. (VIA 3 in 1?)

Reinstall DirectX 9.0b ?

Try another video driver, an older one or a newer one. I noticed some drivers cause stutter with some cards.

Also, maybe reinstall the sound driver. This sounds strange, but I have fixed Framerate problems by doing that.

Good Luck.

Welcome to the curious world of FS2004.  Some people with higher end machines like your (and mine) get worse performance than those with machines that you would expect to have problems.

What is your frontside buss speed?

best,
